Basin Wrench
Quick Facts
  • A basic basin wrench should be able to be purchased for around 10 dollars

We know the scenario all too well; you find a really great deal on a new kitchen faucet to replace that old leaking clunker you have. As soon as you get home you excitedly start to tear out the old one and realize that you have no way to loosen the large nuts on the bottom of the faucet with your adjustable wrench or any other wrench for that mater.

You need a tool called a Basin Wrench. These special plumbing tools have a long handle with a tee end so you can get leverage and the other end has a spring loaded adjustable wrench head that will grip onto the nut. The long handle allows you to reach up behind the sink basin and reach those hard to get nuts. A basic basin wrench should be able to be purchased for around 10 dollars at most hardware stores. There are more fancy and expensive versions around but for that once in a great while kind of job, a less expensive wrench will serve you just fine.
