The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) announced that they will be co-locating the International Builders’ Show (IBS) and the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in Las Vegas starting next year in February 2014. The two Expos will continue to be independently run, but will be held simultaneously at the Las Vegas Convention Center. This is an arrangement that goes at least through 2016. The idea is to foster a “Design and Construction Week” in order to new ideas, products and technologies to design, build and remodel homes.
In 2014 the new co-located trade show event will be held from February 4-6, with each show occupying a separate hall. Since some brands exhibited in both shows, the dual-event means that some kitchen and bath brands will need to choose to exhibit in either the KBIS or IBS hall. Both organizations seem to be making that an easy call for manufacturers. Additionally, one single pass will allow attendees access to both shows and both the NKBA and NAHB will continue to produce separate educational programming and special events.
Future show dates (at the Las Vegas Convention Center):
It’s hoped that the new “Design and Construction Week” will gather more than 75,000 specifiers, builders, dealers and suppliers in 2014 to check out the 2,000 exhibiting brands and manufacturers. Traditionally, the NAHB’s IBS (now in its 69th year) has been the largest annual light construction show in the world with around 50,000 of its own attendees expected at the 2013 show. Conversely, the 49 year-running KBIS is the largest event in North America focused on the kitchen and bath segment. The 2013 show will be in New Orleans from April 19-21.
But wait…there’s more. In 2015, the new Design and Construction Week will add SURFACES and StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. SURFACES is sponsored by the World Floor Covering Association and is the largest floor-covering industry event in North America while StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas is the only show in North America solely focused on the natural stone industry. Shuttle buses will run between the convention centers to allow approximately 25,000 additional attendees to tour all three exhibits.
