Ryobi Debuts New 1.5Ah and 4.0Ah 18V Lithium+ Batteries

Manufacturer:
Model:

As we’ve now seen Milwaukee RedLithium 2.0 and XC4.0 and Metabo 4.0Ah batteries (and overseas DeWalt) the newly updated higher power density Lithium-ion cell-based batteries seem to be in play. Now, Ryobi has officially joined the fray with its new line of Lithium+ batteries. These are Ryobi 18V ONE+ System batteries that represent the company’s next-generation lithium-ion solutions. Lithium+ batteries improve both the performance and run-time of Ryobi 18V ONE+ power tools by increasing torque up to 15% (35% for the 4.0Ah packs). The new Lithium+ batteries are designed to have extreme weather performance so both hot and cold temperatures have less of an effect on the battery or tool’s performance. Also, an on-board fuel gauge lets you see how much fuel you have before you leave the trailer and begin your work.

Features

  • Compact Lithium+ (P107): 1.5Ah
  • High Capacity Lithium+ (P108): 4.0Ah
  • Improves performance of Ryobi 18V ONE+ tools up to 15%
  • Extreme weather performance
  • On-board fuel gauge
  • Charge only with 18V ONE+ Dual-Chemistry chargers
  • 3 year warranty

The Compact Lithium+ 1.5Ah battery (P107) has an MSRP of $54 and the High Capacity Lithium+ 4.0Ah battery (P108) has an MSRP of $99. As you’d expect from Ryobi, the Lithium+ batteries continue to be compatible with every Ryobi 18V tool ever made.

While I instantly noticed the difference in weight and power when I purchased and used the two of the 1.5 ah lithium ion batteries and the six port charger I purchased I am extremely disappointed in the longevity of , or life of the batteries and the charger has stopped fully functioning only after a year of usage. One of the batteries works but only at around 2/3′s the original power. The charger doesn’t charge the larger 4.0 lithium batteries and the top left port doesn’t work at all. Im very disappointed and have not recommended these tools to other contractor and builders and in fact recommended not to purchase these products.

I am also EXTREMELY disappointed in the longevity and life of the batteries and the charger. Both stopped fully functioning before I had a year of usage from them. The charger doesn’t charge! I’m very disappointed and have not nor will not recommend these tools to ANYONE and in fact HIGHLY recommended not to purchase these products at ALL!

Did you use their warranty? Also, these particular batteries just came out so it would be a good bet that they will perform somewhat differently from the first-gen models.
