Duo-Fast DF150-CS Button Cap Stapler Preview

If you’ve ever done a roofing job (and most of our readers seem to have some knowledge of this type of work) you’ve laid down button caps to secure felt to a rooftop. That job is made simpler with the addition of pneumatics. We’ve tried several different systems, like the Fasco America SideWinder Windstrips Stapler we reviewed last year. Now, Duo-Fast has a new product, the DF150-CS Button Cap Stapler. This system allows you to shoot staples and plastic button caps at the same time. As you can imagine, it’s perfect for roofing felt applications as well as housewrap. Most jurisdictions not locked to Broward County rules will allow the use of a tool like this on roofing felt and housewrap.

Now, the Duo-Fast DF150-CS Button Cap Stapler aims to simplify the process. This system allows you to shoot staples and plastic button caps at the same time. As you can imagine, it’s perfect for roofing felt applications as well as housewrap. Most jurisdictions not locked to Broward County rules (formed specially after Hurricane Andrew) will allow the use of a tool like this on roofing felt and housewrap.

Duo-Fast DF150-CS Button Cap Stapler Features

As for the Duo-Fast DF150-CS Button Cap Stapler itself, it’s very compact, weighing in at just under 5 pounds. That means you’re going to be able to use it all day long, even vertically on the sides of houses. It features a straight in-line staple magazine that holds any narrow crown staples from 3/4″ to 1-1/2″ in length. When used with the button caps it will take a 3/8″ crown x 1″ long staple.

Duo-Fast DF175-CN cap nailer

Speaking of using it a long time, the Duo-Fast DF150-CS holds 240 caps in its spool system – which is among the highest in its class. The number also means that you can go through more than two full staple magazines before having to add more caps. Loading up new fasteners is a cinch, with an open-loading design that spools the caps off in single file (as opposed to stacked systems).

Like most new pneumatic tools we’ve tested lately, you can easily switch between bump, sequential, and staple-only firing modes without changing out the trigger. Duo-Fast also included a tool-less quick-clear latch that let’s you clear jams from the nose and an adjustable depth of drive dial to set perfect depth for the staples and assure perfect fastening in any material. The adjustable exhaust cap lets you swivel it to get the air and debris out of your way and an adjustable belt hook lets you hang up the tool when it’s not in use.

The Duo-Caps Fasteners

Most of these tools are all about the fasteners, and Duo-Fast’s DF150-CS is definitely fastener-optimized to take advantage of the company’s patented Duo-Caps. These caps are designed to go down smoothly and securely and can be purchased in 240-count spools, while the 3/8″ crown, 1″ long galvanized staples are available in 100-count strips.
