Pros:
  • Pivoting body
  • Magnetic base
  • Bright, even light
Cons:
  • Not a quick charger

The
Gyros 58-23672 Magnalite Pro Cordless Work Light makes working in the
dark an almost pleasant experience thanks to its portability,
flexibility and the large amount of light it puts out. This work
light can easily replace most automotive drop lights, flashlights and
even camping lanterns – and yet it offers cool-to-the-touch bright
light to illuminate any task. With a slender size and lithium-ion
battery power, there are many things to like about this work light.

Magnalite ProThe
main body of the Magnalite Pro is made of ABS plastic which is a
common thermoplastic that is good for impact resistance even in low
temperatures. The outside finish of the work light has a grippy feel
that helps it be slip resistant. There are a total of 36 LED light
sources arranged in three rows of twelve. The lights are controlled
with a single push button on/off switch and there is only one level
of light output. The midsection of the work light has a pivot point
that allows up to 120 degrees of movement. The pivot is tight and it
takes two hands to adjust the position. At first this seemed like a
problem, but we quickly realized that the stiff joint was a good
thing that allows the work light to stay exactly in the position you
put it in. The battery is removable but doesn’t need to be removed in
order to recharge the flashlight since the charger can plug into the
base of the battery. There is also a magnet built into the base of
the battery that allows the flashlight to be attached to any ferrous
material. Since the magnet is inside the battery enclosure, there is
no metal to metal contact. The charge time for a low battery is a
lengthy 3.5 hours and there is built in over charge protection so as
not to damage the battery or the internals of the worklight. The
upside is that the battery delivers around 6 hours of light on a
single charge. From our experience with this worklight, this pretty
much equates to several weeks of occasional use.

Testing
and Use

Testing
a light like the Gyros 58-23672 Magnalite Pro Cordless Work Light is
a pretty easy task. Quite simply we kept it handy in the shop and
watched how the guys used it. Many times it was used in automotive
applications because it made for a great work light when doing things
like brake jobs and other engine maintenance. It was easy to just
attach the magnetic base to the vehicle and position the light
exactly where we needed it. Another application was when we were
doing an electrical wiring problem diagnosis. We were able to attach
the light to a piece of metal conduit while we checked the wires in
the box – the whole time bathing the area with light. The light is
very bright, with a wide even spread when kept a few feet away from
the work area. When up close, there is a pretty hot spot but that is
to be expected with the arrangement of the LED’s and the silver
reflector.

Using the Magnalite Pro

Conclusion

Bright, even lightThe
idea of a powerful cordless work light is a bright idea….get it…?
Never mind. Anyways, the Gyros 58-23672 Magnalite Pro Cordless Work
Light goes a long ways towards providing a versatile work light that
can handle many applications. Things like automotive maintenance,
facility care, camping, outdoor living and power outages are areas
that come quickly to mind. For our Performance rating we gave this
light a 7/10 since it provides lithium-ion power, loads of light and
some really nice features. For our value rating we gave this worklight an above average 7/10 because we think that this
is a great work light and we can easily recommend it.
