Manufacturer: Makita
Model: TM3000CX5
Price: $169
Makita just released two new multi-tools, including the new 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Multi-Tool Kit (model LXMT025), and the corded Multi-Tool Kit (model TM3000CX5). Compared to other models on the market, these tools look to be hitting the market as “second-gen” level tools, with sufficient build quality to impress us out of the gate and enough run-time (18V cordless) and power (corded model) to be very practical.
The new TM3000CX5 Oscillating Multi-Tool is powered by a 3.0 amp motor with soft start for smooth start-ups. The variable speed control dial allows a flexible operating range (6,000 – 20,000 OPM) and enables the user to match the speed to the application, and the electronic speed control maintains constant speed under load for smoother, higher-quality work. Similar to the 18V Lithium-Ion Multi-Tool, the new TM3000CX5 has a 3.2 degree oscillation angle engineered for faster, more aggressive cutting and sanding. The TM3000CX5 also features a range of comfort and convenience features including reduced vibration (6 m/s²) and lower noise (74dB), a small diameter barrel grip, a large on/off slide switch with lock-on button, and a clamp system and adapters (included) to fit most competitive accessories.
The TM3000CX5 has a barrel grip that looks nicely-shaped for a comfortable hold. The power switch uses a large on/off slide switch with a lock-on button, and the tool comes with a pressure/clamp disc as well as an adapter so you can use nearly any competitive accessories. It lacks the front-mounted LED to illuminate the work area, as the cordless LXMT025 has.
“Trades of all kinds are turning to oscillating multi-tools for a full
range of applications,” said Joe Soto, Product Manager, Residential
Construction. “Makita has engineered power and performance features
into both models, with additional features like reduced vibration and
lower noise. With an 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless multi-tool, as well as
a corded multi-tool, Makita has two best-in-class options for
contractors.”
“As the market leader in 18 volt lithium-ion, it is only natural that Makita delivered a cordless oscillating multi-tool with the speed and performance of a corded multi-tool. This new multi-tool is just one of more than 50 tools that are all powered by Makita LXT Lithium-Ion, the industry’s first 18 volt lithium-ion battery.”
- Ethan Haughawout, Product Manager, Cordless Tools
Makita ships the $169 TM3000CX5 as a kit and includes a plunge cut blade, sanding pad, 10 pc. assortment of 120 & 180 grit sandpaper, 2 accessory adapters, an accessory case, and a tool bag.
Both tools are engineered for a full range of applications including
cutting, sanding, scraping, grout removal, and more. The
TM3000CX5 looks to be ideal for remodelers, carpenters, electricians, plumbers,
wood floor installers, and general contractors seeking a best-in-class
multi-tool. Both tools will be available in May 2012.
