Milwaukee Adjustable Hole Cutter Preview

Milwaukee Adjustable Hole Cutter

We were first introduced to the Milwaukee Adjustable Hole Cutter back at their New Product Symposium in August. It offers some impressive cutting speed in drywall applications and the debris shield is effective at containing dust. While this isn’t the first adjustable hole cutter on the market, it does have a couple of notable improvements over the competition. First of all, the adjustments are tool-free. This is accomplished by integrating the adjustment to the Quik-Lok arbor. By using it to release the pilot bit, adjustments are made and then locked into place once the bit is replaced. The Milwaukee Adjustable Hole Cutter offers laser etched marking in the black oxide finish to make accurate adjustments easier. The debris shield is durable and has a spring collar that allows you to to keep in tight against the work surface during the entire cutting process.

[pullquote]Milwaukee Adjustable Hole Cutter Offers Tool-Free Adjustments for Recessed Lighting Installation[/pullquote]The Milwaukee Adjustable Hole Cutter will create holes from 2″ to 7″ in drywall or ceiling tiles. Some people have tried using hole cutter similar to this in plaster with devastating results to the blades. For the time being, Milwaukee’s is not a solution for plaster either. You’ll need to use a traditional hole saw there. Still, it beats using a drywall square and a pencil to create a hole around a centerline and manually cutting it out. Adjustments can be made and are marked for 1/4″ intervals. Expect the Adjustable Hole Cutter to be a great solution for installing recessed lighting, speakers, fire systems, security systems, and other ceiling fixtures.

“Recessed lighting is a continually growing market segment within new construction and remodeling. With the increasing popularity of LED lights and different types of fixtures, common hole sizes range from 3” to 6” and everything in between.  To install these lights, holes of many different sizes need to be created. Instead of carrying around multiple different sized hole saws, users are looking for a one-size-fits all solution,” said Todd Taylor, Director of Marketing, Product Management for Milwaukee Tool.  “By simply releasing the Quik-Lok™ arbor and removing the pilot bit, users can easily adjust this new Hole Cutter from 2” to 7” in ¼” increments without the use of additional tools or hex keys, quickly returning to the work at hand.”
