We’re big fans of the inspection camera, having reviewed several on PTR. They allow home inspectors, plumbers, appraisers, HVAC technicians and electricians document and troubleshoot problems with an ease that was impossible before the advent of LED and micro-camera technology. Ridgid’s newest inspection camera, the micro CA-300 is the company’s
next evolution of the microEXPLORER family. You can record both still images
and videos of problems in hard-to reach areas and then share these findings with
the new RIDGIDConnect solution. On top of that, an embedded microphone means that you can also document your video with live commentary, so your notes are more complete. The CA-300 has a comfortable pistol-grip design, large 3.5″ LCD screen, and a rugged
and waterproof anodized aluminum camera head with four bright LEDs. These LEDs are “steppable” so you can vary the light intensity depending upon the application. In either case, this camera makes it easier to detect and diagnose
the unreachable.

Imaging

Like most inspection cameras, Ridgid’s new CA-300 lets you get the perfect view with enhanced features like image rotation
and digital zoom. We just wish they made the screens and cameras with perfectly square imaging sensors so that 90 degree rotations were possible. This would keep the lens from getting turned around as they often do. Videos are captured at 320×240 (QVGA) resolution while stills are recorded at 640×480 (VGA). All images and video are stored to the included 4GB SD card, which is removable and can be inserted into your laptop or desktop PC to transfer files. You can also use the included USB cable to slave the CA-300 to your computer for image transfer as well.

Specifications

  • Display: 3.5″ (90mm) Color TFT (320 x 240 resolution)
  • Camera Head: 0.7″ / (17mm) LCD Diameter Aluminum Construction
  • Lighting: 4 Adjustable LEDs
  • Cable Reach: 3′ (0,9m) (Expandable to 30′ with optional extension, also compatible with microDrain, microReel and nanoReel)
  • Images: JPG – (640 x 480) Resolution
  • Video: AVI – (320 x 240) Resolution
  • External Memory: SD Card up to 32 GB (4GB SD card included)
  • Power Source: Rechargeable 3.7V Li-Ion Battery

A couple other notable things about the CA-300 include its ability to be run off a 9V DC input, so you can keep running it even when the battery dies. It also has a speaker, so you can play back your notes and check them to ensure intelligibility during inspections and documentation applications.

The Ridgid micro CA-300 comes with a 17mm imager, rechargeable 3.7V Li-ion battery, charger, USB cable (for PC connectivity and image/video downloads), hook, magnet
and mirror accessories, RCA cable, AC adapter, headset with microphone, 4GB SD card,
and a 1 year RIDGIDConnect Basic subscription.
