Lenox Lazer CT Thick Metal Recip Saw Blades

Why we’d love to have it:

Working with a sub-par blade, especially with metal, can be a pain, both figuratively and literally. But the Lenox Lazer CT carbide-tipped recip saw blades have been engineered for quick cuts in tough metals. And, because the carbides are welded, Lenox claims that these blades get up to 10X longer life than standard bi-metal blades.

We used these blades in our recent Reciprocating Saw shootout, and they’re pretty awesome. You can read about our first-hand experience with them here.

Get it for:

The contractor, remodeler, plumber, or handyman in your group. They’ll appreciate the Lazer CT’s ability to rip through cast iron and rebar quickly.

Klein Portable Jobsite Rechargeable Battery

Why we’d love to have it:

As our phones get older, the batteries become less efficient. After a few years, that full charge that used to last all day might get you through the lunch break. Having an external battery for those situations can be clutch. The Klein Portable Jobsite Rechargeable Battery, with its 13,400mAh capacity, provides up to 28W of total backup power for those days when one charge of the battery won’t get you through the day.

But plenty of external batteries can do this. What sets Klein’s model apart is its jobsite utility. This battery features Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 tech, smart battery protection, auto-device detection, and a 170-lumen work light for those times when some extra light would be helpful. It also has a kickstand, a buffed-up, protective chassis, and an IP65 protection rating.

Tin Cup 10-Year American Whiskey

Why we’d love to have it:

Tin Cup 10 Year Whiskey - Best Tool Gifts for Christmas 2019The Tincup 10 is a high-rye whiskey that’s been aged in American white oak barrels with a #3 char. Tincup ages it for a minimum of ten years before cutting it to proof with Rocky Mountain spring water.

We liked the story behind this whiskey: it’s named Tincup after an old mining town set on the western side of the Rockies in Colorado. The town, in turn, was so named after the old cups that the miners in town would drink from.

But while an interesting back story is great, we really appreciate the flavor profile here. You can pick up notes of cinnamon and earthy pine on the nose. And on the palate, we note peppery dark fruits and leather, with a caramelly finish. If you’re a fan of Tin Cup’s regular whiskey, this has a similar profile with a bolder, spicier approach.

Get it for:

The whiskey-lover on your shopping list. This is not your everyday whiskey for mixing cocktails—this is for sipping neat or on the rocks and enjoying the fellowship of good friends and family.

Kobalt 24-Volt Max 1/2-in Variable Speed Brushless Cordless Drill

Best Tool Gifts for Christmas 2019Why we’d love to have it:

This one has a brushless motor that can crank out 650 in-lbs of torque and has a two-speed gearbox for drilling and driving at the 0-550 and 0-2,000 RPM ranges. It might not get as much attention as some brands, but this is one of the better cordless drills available.

Bosch Portable Router Table

Best Tool Gifts for Christmas 2019Why we’d love to have it:

Milwaukee M12 Fuel Surge

Best Tool Gifts for Christmas 2019Why we’d love to have it:

The Milwaukee M12 Fuel Surge is the first subcompact hydraulic impact driver on the market. It’s light, compact, and quiet, and with its impressive power, it can just about keep up with the larger M18 Fuel Surge when it comes to fastening torque. It handles small to medium diameter fasteners exceptionally well, and because it’s about half as noisy as your standard impact driver, it’s perfect for any close-quarters work or work in an occupied building.

We’ve had the chance to use the impressive Milwaukee M12 Fuel Surge. See how it fares against the M12 Fuel impact driver here.

Bosch X-Lock Grinder

Best Tool Gifts for Christmas 2019Why we’d love to have it:

Angle grinders are so wildly helpful that it’s hard to imagine not having one. But some make the job easier than others. The Bosch X-Lock Grinder is one that really is a game-changer.

It works on Bosch’s 18V battery platform and features a brushless motor, opening it up to all sorts of advanced features, like drop control, kickback control, restart protection, and soft-start tech. It even features an X-Brake to stop the wheel quickly when you turn off the grinder.

But the real innovation that Bosch brings to this tool is the X-Lock mount. Changing a wheel takes up to five times less frustration than other grinders. Rather than screwing around with a spanner wrench and flange nuts, you’ll pull a lever to release the wheel. When installing a new X-Lock wheel, you’ll snap it into place and pull the lever back.

Read more about the Bosch X-Lock Grinder here.

Get it for:

Anyone that uses a 5″ grinder—mechanics, metalworkers, fabricators, general contractors, and virtually any other trade.

Hoover ONEPWR Blade+ Stick Vacuum

Why we’d love to have it:

Best Tool Gifts for Christmas 2019

Some of us in the office (AKA me) are animal enthusiasts who don’t really want to pull out a full-size vacuum every day to deal with cat fur. For us, having a lighter weight, grab-and-go cordless stick vacuum makes a lot of sense. For that matter, it makes a lot of sense in almost any home.

The Hoover ONEPWR Blade+ features dual cyclonic DustVault tech, which captures 99% of dust and fine particles. Hoover claims that, no matter how much cat hair is matted to your floor, you won’t lose suction when you go to suck it up. It features a removable dirt cup for easy post-vac cleanup, and because of its multi-surface brush roll, it can tackle both carpets and hard floors.

Not only is the Hoover Blade+ cordless, but it can transition from full stick vac to handheld vac. It comes with a wall mount for easy, out-of-the-way storage. It runs on Hoover’s ONEPWR lithium-Ion battery platform, and it gets up to 35 minutes of runtime on a charge.

Get it for:

The Hoover ONEPWR Blade+ is so convenient, you’ll never pull out your standard upright vac again. Get it for any home, apartment, or office.

Zero Tolerance 0470 Pocket Knife

Zero Tolerance 0470 Pocket Knife Review - Best Tool Gifts for Christmas 2019Why we’d love to have it:

There are rare times when you find the perfect balance of high-quality character wrapped in a package that you just can’t take your eyes off of. In the world of premium knives, Zero Tolerance pulls it off with the 0470. Its CPM 20CV blade steel is in the upper echelon of super steels while the titanium handle offers a lighter weight and incredible strength.

The blade is formed into a highly functional drop point style and slips inside a handle offset by anything but ordinary carbon fiber. By dropping carbon fibers randomly onto the plate instead of creating a weave, ZT achieves a marbling look that means no two handles are identical. High quality. Beautiful design. You can have both with the Zero Tolerance 0470.

We’d love to have this because EGO makes some of the best cordless mowers on the market. Let me tick off the ways that this mower rocks.

This walk-behind mower gets 45 minutes of runtime on the 5.0Ah battery and only takes 40 minutes to recharge to full. The 56V platform provides enough power to actually get through some overgrowth without bogging down. It has weather-resistant construction, as well as an LED headlight case you get stuck mowing at dawn or dusk, a single-point height adjustment that works easily enough for you to use it one-handed, and it folds over easily for vertical storage.

The kit, which comes with a 56V 5.0Ah battery and a charger, is a great price for the performance you get at $399. It comes with EGO’s 5-year warranty.

Get it for:

Anyone who is considering getting into battery-powered lawn and garden tools. This mower will make a believer out of them.

Makita 18V X2 14″ Top Handle Chainsaw

Best Tool Gifts for Christmas 2019Why we’d love to have it:

We think this Makita top handle chainsaw has it all when you’re ready to make the switch from gas. It has power that’s equivalent to a 30cc gas engine. Torque boost helps to get through knots and other rough bits. It has the muscle to stand up against traditional chainsaw powerhouses in the same class and comes in with some cost savings.

The XCU08 is a 14″ model and the XCU19 comes with a 16″ bare and chain. Both kits comes with a pair of 5.0Ah batteries and a dual-port Rapid Optimum Charger to get you back up and running in 45 minutes or less.

Makita Cordless Drywall Sander

Best Tool Gifts for Christmas 2019Why we’d love to have it:

Drywall work is dirty and tedious, but with the right tools, you can mitigate some of the obnoxiousness. As the first cordless drywall sander available, the Makita XLS01 is the right tool.

This sander features a brushless motor that’s been positioned on the sander head for better efficiency. The sanding head flexes and swivels for maneuverability on all sorts of wall orientations. And an adjustable extension pipe can be extended or collapsed for better access.

The Makita can match its speed to application with a variable speed dial, and it works with the brand’s AWS dust extraction technology. It gets up to 35 minutes of runtime on a charge.

Get it for:

Any drywall artists you know; they’ll appreciate both the design and cordless power supply.

Makita 12″ Cordless Miter Saw

Best Tool Gifts for Christmas 2019Why we’d love to have it:

It’s no secret how we feel about Makita’s cordless miter saws—they’re some of the best miter saws on the market, cordless or otherwise. This 12″ exhibits no discernible blade wobble, and in our case, it came to us spot-on accurate out of the box. It can make miter cuts up to 60° in either direction, with positive miter stops at 0°, 15°, 22.5°, 31.6°, 45°, and 60°. Beveled cuts in either direction can be made from 0°-48°.

The steel rail slide that uses 6 linear ball bearings feels incredibly smooth in its action. It’s also a single action slide, meaning that you can back it up to a wall without losing any slide capacity.

This saw uses a direct drive gearbox and guard system, and the design increases vertical cut capacity significantly. With the two kitted 5.0Ah batteries, you can make up to 175 cuts on 2×12 lumber.

This miter saw features an adjustable laser for lining up your cuts, and the whole thing is AWS capable for when you have a dust extractor to hook up to.

Get it for:

Anyone who is actually serious about the quality of their miter saw cuts and wants to cut the cord.

EGO Nexus Power Station 7.5Ah kit

EGO Nexus power station tool-only - Best Tool Gifts for Christmas 2019Why we’d love to have it:

The EGO Nexus Power Station is pretty incredible. It provides a battery-powered alternative to your gas generator. We’ll forgive you if you’re feeling skeptical. However, with 3000-watt peak power and 2000-watt continuous power, as well as three 120V A/C outlets and four USB ports, you can power TVs, appliances, a full-sized fridge, and more. But what impressed us the most when we reviewed the Power Station was its ability to power a 15-amp circular saw and large drum fan at the same time.

The EGO Nexus Power Station is perfect for anywhere where you need power but have no access to an outlet. Campers, preppers, and tailgaters could all use the Power Station. Ummm….. The Greenworks 181 doesn’t come out until Q1 of 2020. So its not really going to show up under any trees this year. All this will do is help clear out the current GW 180s from shelves. But the current 180 is an old design and total weak sauce these days. 181 should be good, but it will NOT make it in time for these holidays. If you can’t wait for the 181, get the EGO 18″. Superior to the GW 180 by far. 181 will be competitive if you’re on that platform (when it gets here). But otherwise,… Read more »

So how does the Packout radio sound compared to DeWalt’s TSTAK/Toughsystem versions? Already have the TSTAK and it’s literally half the weight of the Packout. Would love to compare the two but the Packout radio STILL hasn’t shipped to stores and apparently won’t until after Black Friday/Cyber Monday. I love Milwaukee but $299 is a huge leap of faith to pay for something that won’t arrive until well after the best discounts have gone by.
