PTR New Product Spotlight – Week of October 14, 2019
Diamond blades, cordless polishers, knockouts, squares, oh my! Here are the hottest new products to come across our radar for this week’s PTR New Product Spotlight!
Makita Premium Diamond Blades
Makita announced a new lineup of Premium Diamond Blades. Due to a new bond formulation and raised segment heights, these new blades can cut up to 40% faster and last up to 4X longer than the competition. The line includes 17 designs, with both general purpose and dual purpose blades in the mix.
The new bond formulation increases the performance of the new diamond blades. Because the bond is stronger, and because Makita only uses premium-quality diamonds for these new blades, you can expect a longer service life out of these blades. But Makita has also increased the segment heights from 7mm to 13mm to help out with the blade lifespan. Cooling slots and gullets keep the blade cutting smoothly without getting too hot.
Three general blade types are included in the launch. Segmented blades deliver fast, cool cuts in concrete and asphalt. Turbo blades have been designed for smoother finishes in block, pavers, brick, concrete, and roofing tiles. And the continuous rim blades tackle fine cutting in marble, granite, porcelain tile, and ceramic tile. All of the Premium Diamond Blades can be used for both wet and dry cutting.
Pricing and availability is still TBA.

Both models feature high-efficiency brushless motors and a variable speed trigger and dial. You can also hold each either by its side or by its bail handle for a variety of angles and positions. DeWalt has designed both tools so that the battery is housed away from the head, and with rubber molding around the handles so there’s less risk of damaging your work surface.
The 20V Max XR 7″ Variable Speed Rotary Polisher, at 16″ long, weighs 4.7 lbs. It will come kitted with two 5.0Ah batteries and charger for $429 or bare for $259.

Greenlee Updates Knockout Lineup
Greenlee has a long history of making knockout solutions for hole punching and the company has announced that they’re set to release an entirely new line of knockouts. The next-gen Greenlee knockouts are made in the USA and will work with a wider array of materials and drivers.
The new Greenlee knockouts can handle up to 10-gauge mild steel, 12-gauge stainless steel, and just about any aluminum, brass, copper, fiberglass, or plastic you can throw at it. They have a taller die design that eliminates over-punching and damaging parts. They also feature knurled edges for better grips, and the draw studs feature a unique “dog point” tip that prevents cross-threading.
Additionally, Greenlee is extending the range of their current stable of knockout drivers. These new drivers can deliver up to 11 tons of punching force.
The line will now also include some manual ratcheting and hydraulic solutions, as well as some compact and battery-powered drivers that feature a 360° rotating head and an 8-second cycle time. An auto-stop/auto-retract feature detects punch completion; it automatically stops and retracts the ram to spare your punch parts from damage.

The EX6 is made from solid, lightweight aluminum, and it has laser-etched markings that won’t fade over time. A corrosion-resistant finish keeps it from getting all crudded up over the years.

SiteOne Pro-Trade Landscape Lighting
SiteOne will add nine new products to its Pro-Trade Lighting lineup. Contractors will now be able to purchase a brass compact floodlight fixture, a PAR36 well light fixture, 3 different PAR36 LED lamps, and 2 high-lumen MR16 LED lamps. A mechanical timer and photocell are also new, and those should help contractors customize operation hours.
The new LED options come with a 5-year warranty and have been rated for damp location placement. The two new MR16 LED options replace the 50-watt halogen lamps while only using 7 watts of energy. They crank out 550 lumens and 2700k, and they will be available in either 38° or 60° beam angles.
The new PAR36 LED lamps come with Chip-on-Board tech and carry an IP67 rating. These come in three flavors (6W, 400 lumens; 8W, 600 lumens; 11W, 800 lumens) that satisfy 20W, 35W, and 50W halogen standards. They are 2700K and have an estimated 30,000-hour lifespan.
The brass-finished compact floodlight has a low profile form factor. It includes a ground stake and comes with a 180-lumen, 2700K T# LED lamp. This comes with a Lifetime warranty.
The PAR36 well light features a black ABS sleeve and stainless steel, adjustable gimble. It uses weather-resistant SPT-2W wire and is covered by a 10-year warranty.

Spyder Circular Saw Blades
Spyder is releasing new circular saw blades that take minimal effort to work through various materials. They feature nickel cobalt cutting teeth, an alternating tooth bevel, and an anti-friction coating. Spyder promises that these ultra-tough, smooth-cutting circular saw blades safer, easier to use, and provide 6X the working life of your conventional (non-carbide) blades.
Spyder has triple-sharpened the 24 NiCo teeth on these 7-1/4″ blades. This ensures really clean cuts, making them a great choice for a variety of framing and construction applications. Plus, with the alternating tooth bevel design, ripping and crosscutting takes less effort on your end than blades with a more conventional design.
In addition to the anti-friction coating that protects the blade against heat, gumming, and corrosion, polymer stabilization vents are in the mix also. These reduce friction, noise, and vibration.
We found a single 7-1/4″ Spyder circular saw blade for $9.98, and Spyder assures us that 10-packs are coming as well.
