Another great dewalt product!
5 Stars
Another great dewalt product!
I ordered this impact driver because I recently ordered my first 12v dewalt tool and I wanted some extra batteries. For the price of this impact with the batteries and a charger it was much more justifiable for me to buy rather than buying just batteries. I have many 20v dewalt tools and I am a long time dewalt fan, using their tools for mechanic and construction work. I have your standard 20v dewalt impact driver and figured I wouldn’t use the 12v very often rather than the 20v. Now that I have the 12v I know this is no longer be the case. This impact driver is certainly a little lighter than the bigger 20v. That being mostly because the battery is substantially smaller but the impact itself is also slightly more compact. Note, between the 20v and 12v impacts there is a size difference but it is not substantial. With this driver you’re not going to go building decks or framing a house but it is perfect for smaller projects or repairs. This impact feels just as powerful as the 20v but being that the battery is so much smaller the charge will not last as long. Another thing I’m a big fan of is the 3 speed adjustment so it’s far more versatile for what you may be working on. The lights are also nice and bright. I love the 12v line because the batteries are so compact so it leaves more room in your tool box for other necessities. If you already have the 20v impact and are on the fence about this one, it’s not really necessary because they are quite similar. If you are choosing between the 2 and only need it for smaller projects I definitely would go with the 12v because it does everything you need it to and the price is hard to beat. It’s overall a great tool to have and very affordable compared to some other options.Value: 9/10Light: 9/10Strength: 10/10Speed: 10/10Versatility: 8/10Weight: 9/10Size: 8.5/10Build quality: 10/10Battery life: 8/10

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Good, sooo much lighter
Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2021
12 volt batteries have been problematic for me in the past. The DEWALT inspection camera and the infrared thermometer are the only two 12v tools I have and I must confess they do not get used nearly as much as many of my 20v tools. The result is the batteries seem to discharge and won’t take a charge. I was trying to figure a way out how to use 12v batteries more and decided o try the impact driver. Needless to say, i have been pleased with the purchase for a multitude of reasons.

There are times working on the inside that I wished I had a tool lighter than the 20v. I am not trying to install huge lag bolts or drill through studs, and sometimes the 20v almost has to much power. The 12v drive feels substantially lighter than the 20v when paired with equal ah batteries. In actuality the 12v is just 5 ounces less than the 20v, but the battery loses another 5 ounces...that is over a half pound and is significant when considering with battery it drops from nearly 3 lbs to just 2 1/4 lbs.

Weight is one thing, but does performance suffer? The answer is dependent on the use...build a deck with a 12v? Absolutely not...mount light fixtures with a 12v? Absolutely.

When I am doing a one-off project like installing a light fixture or ceiling fan, I don’t usually bring my whole kit- just a few tools. I have noticed over the last 18 months that i consciously look for this tool over all the other drill/drivers and the impact drivers I own. This tool aside from a variable speed trigger has three operating modes. The lowest mode pretty much turns this into an electric screwdriver, to the highest which packs a quite punch.
In the lowest mode and lightly squeezing the variable speed trigger allows for a very slow rotation of the bit — nothing gets over torqued/tightened and no heads get stripped. The other impressive thing is the the LED lights, I may notice it on this tool, but inwas hanging a series of curtain rods and realized my headlight had gone out but didn’t need it because of the brightness of this light.
I am very impressed with the 12v impact driver. To use a hammer analogy, you don’t want a framing hammer when you are nailing trim. While either will work, each hammer plays an important role. I see the two drivers in a similar light.

Finally just for comparison I weighed a makita driver and found it right in the middle of the two dewalt tools, but again the makita 18v 2ah battery weighs slightly more than the Dewalt 20v. I haven’t done any runtime comparisons because I don’t think it is as important or even relevant. If you are driving screws all day, the 12v is not going to be your first choice, but if you need to drill a few holes and drive a few screws while installing something...the 12v is superior.

All in all if you need something for around the house (almost like an electric screwdriver) the 12v is perfect and allows the use of a wide range of attachments. If you are more into projects, the 12v may be a good second tool but I am not sure I would want it as a primary tool.

The product is great. Since it's so compact and light, it's my go-to for just about any job, especially when up on a ladder or when carrying multiple things. Love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal little impact
Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2023
I really enjoy the DeWalt 12v Xtreme line and I started buying into it after the screwdriver with this. It has more than enough power for what I do as a small engine technician but I've also used it for rebuilding a deck for my dad and it was impressive. Driving speed isn't as great as might get from some of the newer 20v but it had enough power to break several rusted out t20 GRKs, much to my surprise.

I use this daily as an electricians apprentice. It's lightweight which helps a ton when using it above your head all day. Also it's got a decent amount of torque for something so small. It puts the Milwaukee 12v stuff to shame. I also appreciate that it has adjustable torque settings for when I'm putting in pannel screws it helps to not strip things out!

Manejo insuperable. Ligero, configurable, lo que más me gustó fue que es fácil poner las puntas, pero más fácil retirarlas ya que el mecanismo las empuja hacia afuera, puedes manejar el cambio a una mano.
