Zircon MetalliScanner m40

The MetalliScanner m40 quickly and easily detects metal in wood, drywall, paneling, tile, stucco, plaster, concrete, and other non-metallic surfaces. It locates ferrous (magnetic) metal up to 4 inches (10 cm) deep and non-ferrous (non-magnetic) metal up to 2 inches (5 cm) deep. The MetalliScanner m40 finds plumbing, ductwork, rebar, and nails in walls, floors, and ceilings, and is great for scanning reclaimed lumber for hidden metal.

m40 Functions:

- Detects ferrous and non-ferrous metals in most non-metallic surfaces.

- Finds the pattern of nails to detect studs.

- LED arrays indicate signal strength.

- Blue coil and audio tone indicate when metal target is located.

- PinPoint Scan locates small objects, including screws and nails.

- Wide Scan detects metal in walls or concrete.

PinPoint Scan

Use the m40's PinPoint Scan position to locate small metal targets such as nails and refine your search results.

How to Use:

As the m40 approaches a metal object, the red LEDs progressively light from the bottom up. The top lighted blue coil and an audio tone indicate the strongest signal when a metal target is located.

Calibrate away from any metal for maximum sensitivity. Recalibrating closer to the target decreases sensitivity to find the precise location of metal.

Wide Scan

Use the m40's Wide Scan to quickly find approximate locations of metal in walls and/or concrete.

Use the m40 in Wide Scan position just as you would in PinPoint Scan position.

Scanning through Lath and Plaster

The m40 solves the difficult problem of finding studs in lath and plaster walls that do not contain metal mesh by finding the pattern of nails that attach the wood lath to the studs.

The m40 scans through lath and plaster in both PinPoint Scan and Wide Scan positions.

Key to Success is the Battery

A fully charged 9V battery is required to steadily power the integrated LCD screen in Zircon tools. Please note that, like a cell phone or any personal electronic device, the 9V batteries needed to power Zircon tools can lose power even when sitting idle. The installation of a fresh battery, with an extended expiration date, typically resolves 99% of problems.

Product Description

The Zircon MetalliScanner m40 electronic metal scanner quickly and easily detects metal in lath and plaster, wood, drywall, paneling, tile, stucco, plaster, concrete and other non-metallic surfaces. This metal detector locates ferrous (magnetic) metal up to 4 inches (100 mm) deep and non-ferrous (non-magnetic) metal up to 2 inches (50 mm) deep. The Zircon m40 has two scanning positions, Wide Scan and Pinpoint Scan. To get started, install the included 9V alkaline battery. Hold the tool in the air away from any metal but make sure the blue sensor is parallel to the surface being scanned. Press and hold the Power Button to calibrate the unit. Once you hear a beep and see the green "Ready" LED illuminated, calibration is complete. Continue to hold the Power Button as you slowly slide the tool across the surface. As the MetalliScanner approaches a metal object, the red LEDs progressively light from the bottom up in both scanning modes. The top lighted blue coil and an audio tone indicate when a metal target is located. This MetalliScanner m40 tool easily solves the very difficult problem of finding studs in lath and plaster walls. It works as a nail finder by detecting the pattern of nails that attach the wood lath to the studs. Additionally, the MetalliScanner m40 metal locator finds plumbing, ductwork, rebar, nails and screws in your walls, floors and ceilings and is great for scanning reclaimed lumber for hidden metal. Now in easy open packaging, this product comes with everything you need to get started, including the battery! Backed by our world class customer service and support, we at Zircon know that whether you're a Construction Professional or weekend DIY enthusiast, you'll find the m40 has the technology and durability you're looking for to get the job done right.

A simple BRILLIANT tool.
5 Stars
A simple BRILLIANT tool.
Sometimes, (often) I miss the obvious. Living in an older home in the Mid-west, my walls are covered in plaster, the wall studs are not exactly 16" on center, and the insulation is blown in. During a remodel, I remove the plaster with a hammer, leave the wood slats, top off the insulation and cover with 5/8ths sheet rock (5/8ths for flat strong walls) locating the studs can be a real pain, the hassle of marking the stud on the ceiling and floor, hoping the studs are straight, is no longer an issue. The Zircon MetalliScanner finds the nails that hold the slats to the wall, (nails on every stud) accurately and quickly. It has no problem spotting through the 5/8ths gypsum board, (sheet rock) or the plaster. If you need to find the studs in a plaster covered wall, this is the tool to have! I Highly recommend it!
