One Tool to Rule Them All

Ingersoll Rand tells us that the 20V High-Torque Impact Wrench showcases the best in class power-to-weight ratio. So how do they claim this?

According to IR, the W7152 features a powerful brushless motor and an impact mechanism that they’ve finely-tuned. The result is 1000 ft. lbs. of fastening torque and up to 1500 ft. lbs. of nut-busting torque. What is impressive about these specs is that they’re coming from an impact wrench that weighs just 7.6 lbs. with the battery.

But, it’s not all raw power and no finesse. The Ingersoll Rand High-Torque Impact Wrench features the IQV Power Control System. This provides 4 modes: Full Power, Half Power, Wrench Tight, and Hand Tight. The variable speed trigger gives even more control. As the brand says, “from axle nuts to oil pans, flange bolts to pre-torque joints, there’s no need to switch tools.”

The Ingersoll Rand 20V Impact Wrench is designed to stand up to typical shop abuse. It features a steel-reinforced frame and impact- and chemical-resistant housing.

It also features one of our favorite work light designs, the 360º shadowless LED. But, this one actually has 4 dimmable settings so you can customize your brightness depending on your setting.

Our Thoughts

Lots of companies make impact wrenches. Most people also don’t require 1,000 ft-lbs of torque. That means that you typically have to have a specific need for a high-impact torque wrench like the Ingersoll Rand W7152. In this case, however, IR made the tool extremely compact. We also love the continued use of the LED light ring, which we first saw on the Ingersoll Rand W5132 3/8-inch impact wrench. This tool—based on the specs and design—compares really well to the Milwaukee High-Torque 1/2″ impact wrench. It would be great to see them go head-to-head.

IR W7152 Prices and Kit Options

You can pick up the Ingersoll Rand 20V High Torque Impact Wrench in a few different configurations. As a bare tool, the W7152 runs about $259. You can also pick it up kitted with one or two 5.0Ah batteries and a charger. The one-battery kit retails for around $401, while the two-battery kit will run you around $480. In any case, this impact wrench comes with a 3-year warranty.

Ingersoll Rand arrived late to this party. Milwaukee has had their 1/2″ impact with 1400 ft/lbs for some time now and if we wanted to upgrade they now have a 1″ with 1800 or 2000 ft/lbs.
