3 Core DeWalt FlexVolt Tools Just Got a Power Upgrade

DeWalt FlexVolt Circular Saw, Grinder, and Reciprocating Saw to Benefit From Power Boost

When DeWalt FlexVolt was first announced back in 2016, it opened doors to more powerful tools with a battery that’s backward compatible to 20V max products. At the annual STAFDA convention in Nashville, DeWalt showed off 3 updated tools. Going back to its core roots, the DeWalt FlexVolt circular saw, grinder, and reciprocating saws are all getting significant power upgrades.

10-Second Summary

  • DCS578 Circular Saw: 47% more power
  • DCG418 Angle Grinder: 30% more power
  • DCS389 Reciprocating Saw: 19% more power
  • All three will be $249 bare and $299 with a 3.0Ah/9.0Ah battery when they launch in spring 2020

DeWalt FlexVolt Circular Saw (DCS578)

With the update to its original FlexVolt circular saw, the new model now boasts an extra 47% power (2456 unit watts out). That’s significant since the DCS575 was certainly no slouch. It’s now packing a little more power than the Worm Drive Style saw’s 2400 watts.

Expect this updated model to run $249 bare and $299 with a 3.0Ah/9.0Ah battery.

DeWalt FlexVolt 4-1/2″ – 6″ Grinder (DCG418)

The DeWalt FlexVolt grinder is still one of our go-to tools for a variety of tasks. It has excellent power and I really like the ergonomics of its handle design. The new DCG418 comes in with 30% more power, producing 2300 unit watts out.

Among other features, it has kickback control to reign in its 13-amp corded equivalence should you bind it up at 9,000 RPM. This upgrade will also run $249 as a bare tool and $299 as a kit with a 3.0Ah/9.0Ah battery.

DeWalt FlexVolt Reciprocating Saw (DCS389)

The new FlexVolt reciprocating saw boosts its power by 19% over the original, reaching 1874 unit watts out. At first glance, it doesn’t look like there are any changes, so there’s still no orbital action or active vibration control.

Want to take a stab at the price? It’s $249 as a bare tool and $299 as a kit with a 3.0Ah/9.0Ah battery.

We’re going to do our best to get each of these new DeWalt FlexVolt tools in for review when they come available in the of 2020. What are you most looking forward to getting your hands on?
