It’s that time of year again: when the leaves are changing in the hills, Florida is still 90-degrees, and the Kentucky Exposition Center is wall to wall with mowers, tractors, chainsaws, and people. The Green Industry Equipment and Expo (GIE Expo) brought in thousands of consumers, dealers, manufacturers, and media. While we can’t possibly cover it ALL, we do our best to bring the best Makita equipment at GIE Expo 2018.

Hot Makita Products at GIE

Makita’s booth was buzzing from beginning to end with people getting a taste of all the tools, equipment, and apparel Makita have to offer. An arborist was cutting timber in the booth, with a brand-new chainsaw, the black shag carpet was being swept with a battery-powered wire brush, while others were trying on heated jackets. Here’s what topped our lists for the best Makita equipment at GIE.

Makita XCU08 Top-handle X2 36V Chainsaw (also XCU09)

The 36-volt chainsaw is part of the Makita X2 platform using two 18-volt batteries. This chainsaw uses Makita’s outer-rotor brushless motor design, hence it provides more power and torque to the blade. The Makita XCU08 chainsaw will be available with a 14″ bar and chain. The Makita XCU09 chainsaw comes with a 16″ bar and chain. Both chains utilize an efficient 3/8″ pitch and .043″ gauge. Makita is set to launch the new top-handle X2 chainsaw in Q2 of 2019.

Makita Heated and Cooling Jackets

Powered by their 18V batteries, Makita has jackets to warm you up, and others that cool you down. These heated jackets include a power button on the left-chest, hold the button down to power up, then each press will cycle through the High, Medium, and Low settings. Makita has a few color choices: black, RealTree Camo, and Hi-viz yellow. For the hunters, the RealTree jackets have the power button inside a zipped pocket. This is so the LED lights on the power/status button doesn’t give away your location when you’re in the woods.

Don’t forget the cooling jackets. Sure, they make you look like the Michelin or Stay-puff marshmallow Man, but the Makita cooling jackets will aid in cooling you down. The full-sleeved cooling jackets fill the cavity, between the wind-breaker-type shell and your body, with forced air. Two fans are powered by an 18V battery. These work great for confined spaces, such as attics; however, the cooling jackets also work great outdoors by keeping the sun and UV off your skin.

Best Makita Equipment at GIE Expo Conclusion

The 2018 GIE show was everything we hoped it would be, and Makita brought an impressive collection of tools and equipment. In addition to the chainsaws and jackets, Makita had many other products on display. Their Makita Couple Shaft system that includes multiple attachments is unique in that you can change powerheads, from their MM4 4-stroke gas to their X2 36V. Furthermore, Makita’s attachments continue to grow for this system. They include the typical string trimmer, edger, hedge trimmer, and pole-saw, and now they’ve added a paddle-wheel and nylon wire brush for cleaning lawns and streets. Makita also had their gas-powered cut-off saws for demolition and/or cutting hardscape projects (bricks, pavers, concrete, etc.). Check out all the great Makita OPE stuff here.
