The biggest trade show of the year in terms of scale is already in the books. With hundreds of vendors and plenty of brands Pros are already familiar with, it was a no-brainer to see was going on at the Makita booth. Last year, they announced the 18V X2 LXT Brushless Rear-Handle Saw. While they don’t have anything quite as ground-breaking to unveil this year, we had the opportunity to get our hands on several of the newest products. Here’s our list of the best Makita tools at World of Concrete 2018.

AWS – Auto-Start Wireless System

One of Makita’s most impressive new technologies is AWS – Auto-Start Wireless System. It’s a way to get cordless tools to still automatically kick on a dust extractor to keep you OSHA-compliant for silica dust or just plain cleaner.

For now, there’s just one dust extractor and four tools. But it’s just the beginning as Makita works toward a cordless jobsite. Check out AWS in action with the Makita 18V X2 Rotary Hammer.

18V X2 LXT Concrete Hammers with Anti-Vibration

Working with a demo hammer may earn you some legitimate bonus points on your man card, but it can demand a lot from your body. Makita’s AVT system helps reduce the amount of vibration your arms and shoulders have to absorb. You’ll find AVT in models from 17 lb. light-duty hammers all the way up to 70 lb. heavy-duty beasts. Take a look a how Makita does it in the cutaway.

Makita Cordless Rebar Cutter

The Makita cordless rebar cutter got a makeover. Actually, it’s a completely different animal now. They’ve taken an 18V grinder and given it a new shroud to protect the carbide blade. Yes, I said carbide blade. This is a cold cutting saw so it uses a carbide blade rather than abrasive disks or diamond wheels. Not only is the tool more ergonomic, it also throws out fewer sparks and gets you as close as 1/8″ to the material you’re working on. It’s a brilliant solution for a common task, cutting up to #8 rebar.

Makita Carbide Bits

Makita has some innovation going in the rotary hammer bit department. Their carbide bits have a new tip design that gives you six cutting edges. The benefit is faster concrete drilling and longer life.

Makita 16″ 18V X2 LXT Chainsaw

I love Makita’s XCU03 chainsaw. It’s a big upgrade from the previous generation and really earned its keep when Hurricane Irma plowed through our city. The XCU04 is on its way now with a 16″ bar and without sacrificing performance on Makita’s 18V X2 LXT system.

Makita Gas Chainsaws

For applications that need a bit more length than cordless can provide, Makita now has a 56cc 20″ chainsaw to work with. The 56cc engine brings the weight down to 12.8 pounds (without bar and chain) while still delivering 4.1 horsepower.

People Misusing Large Construction Equipment

We were tooling around online today and came across several examples of how to misuse large construction equipment. And believe us, this is some gross misuse of some very large pieces of equipment. Why Use a Battery-Powered Chainsaw?

So why use a battery-powered chainsaw over gas or corded models? There are several key reasons why these unconventional OPE tools are on the rise.
