Celebrate National Tradesmen Day on Friday
Friday, September 20th is National Tradesmen Day, a day pioneered by Irwin Tools and backed by lots of industry folk, including a favorite of ours, Mike Rowe. This is a day to say “thank you” to America’s electricians, plumbers, welders, drywall installers, framers, masons, carpenters, auto mechanics, and more. After all, professional tradesmen are all around us, every single day. They are our nation’s real working hands. Whether grizzled veterans or young apprentices just learning the trade, these men and women work in the toughest, most unforgiving conditions – often, with no break room in sight!
We love tradesmen because we all need them. Just wait until the A/C stops working, or you decide to buy a new home, or your car breaks down. Trouble is, we tend to only appreciate tradesmen when we need them, and forget about them the rest of the time. These men are skilled – and they are valuable. And they deserve some recognition. Friday is their day, but in all honesty, I’d like to remember to be grateful for all they do a whole lot more often.
So this week, shake the hand of a tradesman and say “thanks”. You might get some dirt on you in the process, but it will be worth it.
