The new DeWalt XR extreme runtime line of drills/drivers is expanding. DeWalt combined two technologies in engineering the XR series. They started with the development of their own brushless motor that claims to improve runtime by 57% over standard brushed motors. DeWalt then paired their high-efficiency motor with a 20-volt battery that boasts 33% more capacity.
On the XR Premium side of the line, the gear casing and transmission are all-metal construction. The chuck is also an all-metal design with carbide inserts. Each drill has 3 speeds giving the user an RPM range of 0 – 2000. You also get a lightweight and ergonomic design. The transmission is 2 speed and offers the same 0 – 2000 RPM as the Premium drills. The power in the XR Compact drills is optimized for light/medium drilling and fastening applications.
Call it Black Friday shopping for the DeWalt crowd out there if you like, but retailers are having a hard time keeping several of these models in stock.
