One of the things that has become very popular in this era of the internet age is the idea of crowdraising – the concept to spread work far and wide in hopes that a lot of people are willing to donate a little funding to your cause. Kickstarter took this idea to specifically help potential small business owners get their ideas off the ground by finding people willing to financially back specific projects. One of those that caught our attention was the Screw Grabber Kickstarter project conceived by Phillip Kauffman from Los Angeles, California.
Kauffman saw a need to find a solution to the age old problem of holding a non-magnetic screw on a driver. The Screw Grabber is a simple rubber sleeve that slides over the shaft of your multi-bit screwdriver or other hand-driver. By positioning it with half of the sleeve off the end, the user inserts the screw which is held in place by ribbing designed on the interior. While that feature holds the screw in place, three cuts on the sleeve ensure that the screw can enter easily with a variety of head diameters. Two sizes of the Screw Grabber are planned upon successfully reaching the financial goal to get the project off the ground.
What’s also kind of interesting is that there are benefits to different levels of giving. All the way from a starter pack of 3 small and 1 large Screw Grabber for a pledge of $7 through a home cooked meal in Los Angeles with Kauffman and his wife plus a package of 20 Screw Gabbers for donations of $1000 or more. While we don’t have a sample of the Screw Grabber to test and review, I think that this idea has the potential to be an item you see hanging on the shelves at our big box retail stores. I would also note that this project is currently in a concept stage seeking financial backing to move forward, and that Pro Tool Reviews is simply bringing to light what we think is some brilliant thinking for a tool that directly affects our industry.
