MagBulb Magnetic Light Bulb Socket | Are Screw-in Bulbs Obsolete?

MagBulb

Actual Game-Changer Alert!

How many <fill in the blank> does it take to change a lightbulb? With the MagBulb Magnetic Light Bulb Socket, the answer is one. There’s no snappy punchline here. The MagBulb is just possibly the easiest way to change a lightbulb we’ve ever seen. Rather than relying on threading to hold your lightbulb in its fixture, this system uses magnets. The result is a system so simple to use that “even a caveman can do it“.

How Does MagBulb Work?

You know how some ideas are so simple and intuitive that you wonder why they haven’t existed for the last 30 years? This is one of those inventions. The MagBulb magnetic lightbulb socket screws into your existing E26/27 lightbulb sockets to provide a magnetic base that secures your lightbulb. Once the base is screwed into your light fixture, compatible lightbulbs can be snapped in and out of the socket at will.

The Magbulb adapter is made of a fireproof, non-combustible plastic. It uses a heat-resistant neodymium magnet. Increased operating temperatures won’t affect the constant magnetic field of the MagBulb.

The benefits here are many. First of all, no one wants to spend all the time in the world trying to thread in their lightbulbs. Sure, we’re probably only talking about 15 seconds in most cases, but once the MagBulb socket is installed, we’re talking about a real timesaver as lightbulbs click into place in under a second.

Secondly, the MagBulb socket is a whole lot safer than your traditional outlet.  Not only is it easy friendly to the arthritic and disabled, but it makes one-handed lightbulb changes a whole lot easier. That means that hopping up to the top of a ladder doesn’t have to put your balance to the test so much.

Plus, what happens when you’re dealing with a broken bulb? With traditional sockets, you have to find a way to twist the bulb out of the socket, which can expose your skin to broken glass and live wires. With MagBulb, you just snap the broken bulb out easily.

Where Can I Get Ahold of the MagBulb Magnetic Socket?

Right now, the MagBulb is raising production funding through a Kickstarter campaign. As of the time of this writing, it looks like the company has exceeded its goal, but you can still get in on the ground floor with this product for some pretty deep discounts.

The only real impediment is the dropping cost of LED bulbs. With bulbs having a 20,000- to 50,000-hour lifespan, is this an idea whose time has already come and gone?
