Quikrete recently launched a few new products that are perfect for that weekend DIY project that might range from installing pavers, to repairing sidewalks or fireplaces. Quikrete, as most consumers and professionals already know, specializes in masonry type materials for doing both repairs and new installs that give professional results. These new products seem to fit the bill on a number of levels for both pros and the weekend warrior.
To start there is the new Quikrete PowerLoc Jointing Sand & Polymeric Jointing Sand. The PowerLoc Jointing Sand is a polymer-modified, graded sand that is specially designed for sweeping into paving stone joints. This can be everything from concrete to brick pavers and natural stone with joints up to 1/2 inch or less in width. Quikrete HardScapes Polymeric Jointing Sand is a high-performance polymeric jointing sand graded specially for sweeping into paving stone joints. Project use would including interlocking pavers, bricks, patio blocks and concrete slabs up to 2 inches wide for both commercial and residential applications. Once placed and dampened, both non-staining sands harden to lock pavers in place. Using these locking sands will provide a stable surface that is resistant to erosion, weed growth and insects while remaining pliable for naturally occurring freeze-thaw cycles. A great project idea would be to build a concrete path or maybe install pavers or natural stone to increase a home’s outdoor living space with new patios and walkways.
Quikrete Fireplace Mortar is a silicate-based refractory cement caulk is ideal for tuck pointing damaged firebox mortar joints, chips and cracks commonly found in fireplaces and wood burning stoves. This motor comes conveniently packaged in a conventional caulk tube. Given that it is pre-mixed and ready to go, there is minimal prep and mess while making the repairs. Once cured, the mortar provides superior adhesion for a durable repair while withstanding heats up to 2000 F (1093 C). Using a caulk gun, the mortar is applied in strips no greater than 1/8-inch with multiple 1/8-inch layers for larger joints as needed. Once dry, stoke a low fire up-to 212 F for 1-4 hours to assure adequate drying and set time. Once the product is dry, stoke the firebox temperature to 500 F for an additional 1-4 hours before routine usage. Now repairing fireplace mortar joints and fire brick should be a breeze.

Quikrete Zip & Mix Repair Mortar is a multi-purpose repair mortar uniquely packaged to allow the product to be mixed in its pouch, eliminating the need for a pail. The fast-setting, polymer modified repair mortar is specifically formulated to make structural repairs to any concrete, masonry or stucco surface. This product is easy to sculpt or shape during application and has a 4,500 psi strength when finished. Now making both vertical or horizontal repairs that can range from a feather edge to two inches deep is easy.
