Professional Tool Reviews for Pros

STAFDA 2014 Trade Show Recap

STAFDA 2014

STAFDA 2014 took place this past Monday and Tuesday at the Charlotte Convention Center in North Carolina. STAFDA (Specialty Tools and Fasteners Distributors Association) hosts the annual convention each year, giving manufacturers the chance to show off the latest and greatest tools for potential distributors and retailers to consider. Since retail stores are where the money is spent, everyone has on their A game and just about everyone you can think of will show up. This is the biggest show of the year that Pro Tool Reviews covers, and it was also our chance to follow up with many of the Pro Tool Innovation Award Winners for 2014.

STAFDA 2014 Twitter Recap

Diablo’s new Snap Lock Hole Saw system features 2-3/8″ length to get through 2x material plus sheet lumber and a quick change system identical to an impact driver.

Diablo also showed off their new carbide reciprocating saw blades with some incredibly abusive testing. Check out our full article on Diablo’s new products from STAFDA 2014.

Spyder Products Double Sided Jigsaw Blades show an amazing ability to plunge cut, reverse direction, and make incredibly tight turns.

Cyndi from Eagle Tool US was so busy at STAFDA 2014 that she couldn’t even put down the phone! Eagle Tool US‘ cable bits have been a big hit among installers.

Skilsaw had their new brand identity out in full force. Their new 10-1/4″ Sawsquatch drew a lot of attention. I’m sure it had absolutely nothing to do with the photo opportunity afforded by the beast. Look for Skilsaw to serve the professional moving forward.

Makita had a lot of things going on at STAFDA 2014. This is their new 5.5 hp gas powered compressor. It’s paired with a Honda engine and V-twin design to run cooler.

Oil pulse technology isn’t something that we’ve seen a lot of around the residential construction industry. Makita has an oil pulse impact driver coming out. You can be sure that we’ll be talking to them in more detail about this system that reduces noise by some 30%!

Our friends at Senco have a solution for fastening sheet material with preinstalled insulation. A variety of methods would have been used previously, but with varying results and some tool modifications.

Jon Bucklew just talked about his experience with Milwaukee’s Torque Lock Family of locking C-Clamps and pliers. Check out his thoughts here!

DeWalt had their new outdoor power equipment line on display. The trimmer is very long but well balanced and the blower is surprisingly powerful. Look for their new 40V 6.0 amp hour battery to be introduced with the line.

Did you see our review of LED Lenser’s P7QC? It was on display along with a couple of products you’ll see in our Holiday Gift Guide coming out on November 20th!

Hitachi makes some really outstanding pneumatic nailers. The entire line was on display at STAFDA 2014. Here’s their 2014 Pro Tool Innovation Award winning NV90AG 3-1/2″ coil framing nailer.

David Klein showed me Klein’s Pro Pack kits. They’re available on Amazon and at select retailers throughout the country, but don’t check the big box stores for these. With Christmas right around the corner, these are a great option for the electrician in your life.

Leica knows a lot about lasers. They currently make some 80% of the laser distance measures on the market. Their 2014 Pro Tool Innovation Award winning L2G+ is a laser cross level that can be seen much easier by using the green wavelength. Clearly my smart phone typing ability can use some improvement.

One of Husqvarna’s newest products are their power grinders. These beasts are capable of aggressive floor stripping, prepping, and polishing. For the user that works alone, these can be taken apart and will fold up small enough to fit in the truck of a car!

My last stop was at Bosch to check out what they’ve got on the horizon. The new Power Ready  wireless charging system generated a lot of buzz around STAFDA 2014. We’ve got these in for review, so keep your eyes open for Clint DeBoer’s thoughts.

What is Silicosis and How is it Contracted?

Few people really enjoy it when the government expands regulations.
