Ryobi DOCKit Drilling and Driving Kit with Storage Tray Review

Ryobi DOCKit bit set mounted

No matter how many reviews we do, one of the things we can never seem to get enough of are driver bits. While nearly all manufacturers have branded bits which they sell, most don’t do anything profound with bit storage. The Ryobi DOCKit drilling and driving kit offers a familiar assortment of bits, but stores them in a case that stores neatly in a wall-mounted tray with up to four companions.

Ryobi DOCKit Drilling and Driving Kit with Storage Tray Features

Ryobi DOCKit bit set openThe Ryobi DOCKit drilling and driving kit with storage tray holds over 50 bits for drilling and driving. The DOCKit tray can mount to a wall and can hold up to 5 Ryobi accessory kits. While that may not seem impressive, Ryobi designed it with all of its previous models in mind—that means the Ryobi DOCKit storage tray will hold nearly all of the currently shipping Ryobi accessory kits. The tray’s versatile design allows the user to either hang the tray on a wall with the built-in hanging holes or set it on top of your Milwaukee tool chest. The cases store and remove easily from the DOCKit tray, so it’s just a really good system if you want to keep things organized.

Using the Ryobi DOCKit Drilling and Driving Kit

Ryobi DOCKit bitsThe 56-piece Ryobi DOCKit kit gives you black oxide driver bits and an assortment of drill bits that will work with wood, metal, or plastic. The included Ryobi driver bits include Phillips, flat, hex, and square bits. The best thing may be how easy they are to remove and replace, however. Having used other manufacturer’s products they can’t seem to get that perfect mix of secure bit storage and easy removability. The drill bits slide in and out with little to no difficulty, and the bits snap in and out without having to mess with rubber flaps that don’t want to release (You know who you are!). Ryobi has just about locked up accessibility. For knowing you’re grabbing the right case, each side of the Ryobi DOCKit kit has an imprinted label so it can be easily identified when stored in the DOCKit storage tray.

We used these bits for a number of tasks, from actually mounting the DOCKit tray to a 2×4 stud to re-drilling strike plates and hinges on some exterior wood doors. The bits in this kit aren’t impact-rated, so using them with self tapping screws on sheet metal won’t be optimal, but for wood applications they did very well. Cam-out was minimal, and the price and performance ratio was very good. You can pick up this kit—which includes the DOCKit tray—for just under $20 at The Home Depot.
