DeWalt Green Cross Line Laser Video Review DW088LG
Green laser or red lasers? There are tradeoffs to make no matter which direction you go. We brought in a DeWalt Green Cross Line Laser to see how it performs as a 12V lithium-ion model and if seeing green is worth the extra green.
If you’re new to the laser discussion, there’s more than just a difference of color between the two main laser colors. Green lasers are closer to the optimal wavelength for the human eye to see. So if you put a green laser and red laser next to each other, we’ll see the green one farther down range. Red still continues on, we just can’t see it. That’s why you’ll often use a receiver with a cross line laser, especially outside. For the DeWalt DW088LG, the visual range is up to 100 feet, though you’ll be hard-pressed to see it that far with the lights on.
The downside is that green lasers cost more to produce and are more power hungry. That power consumption is one of the reasons the DW088LG DeWalt Green Cross Line Laser is so attractive – it’s on the rechargeable 12V Max system. Using the 2.0 amp hour battery, you’re looking at 8 – 14 hours of runtime. That all depends on full cross line or single line use. But you just recharge it when you’re done for the day so you’re not running through AA’s or AAA’s like they’re going out of style.
Aside from that, you’ve got pretty standard features like horizontal only and vertical only line control along with a self-leveling and locking pendulum. Ready for jobsite use, it carries an IP65 rating against dust and water intrusion.
