DeWalt introduced its Solid Rock Carbide SDS Plus drill bits (DW5501 – DW5541). The new bits are designed for mechanical contractors, electricians, forming and tilt wall contractors, MRO, glaziers and general contractors for drilling holes in hard concrete, reinforced concrete, block and pan decking. Designed and manufactured in Germany, the bits have an innovative bonding system that is used to affix the Solid Rock Carbide tip to the flute. The system is designed to provide extreme durability and longer bit life, even when used on reinforced concrete.

Ranging from 5/32″ – 1/2″ in size, the Solid Rock Carbide SDS Plus drill bits have a full head, four-cutter design that has two times more carbide and is up to five times more durable than competitive two-cutter bits. The drill bits are also designed with a four flute design. The four separate channels provide efficient debris removal for faster drilling – critical when dealing with tough materials like concrete.
These bits will fit into any SDS (slotted drive system) Plus tool. SDS bits for hammer drills/rotary hammers allow the bit to slide in the chuck and enhance the hammering action of the tool. For most applications, these bits provide plenty of torque. SDS Max bits are similar to SDS bits, but have larger shanks and come in larger sizes than SDS bits. These more powerful bits are used primarily in industrial applications.
