Portamate Portacube STR Miter Saw Work Station
Well known workshop and power tool accessory manufacturer Portamate recently introduced the Portamate Portacube STR Miter Saw Work Station. This portable workstation is a combination of a miter saw (or other bench top power tool) stand, expandable work surface, and storage center.
The unique rotating tabletop spins to store benchtop tools up to 26-1/2-inches wide underneath, the work surface wings fold down, and the workstation can be rolled on its two 10-inch wheels. With a folded footprint of 31-inches wide x 29-inches deep x 34-inches high, the unfolded wings provide 7 feet of working surface.
“The design team at Portamate really had the end-user in mind when they developed the Portacube STR and took into consideration both function and practicality. The capabilities make it an ideal complement for your miter saw or other tabletop tool and its compact design makes storage and use in any workshop more efficient.”

The new Portamate Portacube STR Miter Saw Work Station is an interesting solution for the miter stand issue. We’re pretty big fans of Ridgid’s MS-UV and Bosch’s T4B Gravity Rise stands for jobsite use. This stand is clearly something completely different.
Rather than storing the saw at 90 degrees to its working position, the Portacube flips all the way around. That creates a work space. That’s something that caught my attention immediately since most stands simply take up space rather than of function when the saw isn’t in use.
My first thought when it comes to portability is that this is much better suited for shop use than jobsite use. As the name implies, the cubical general shape seems to be a bit bulky for bringing onto a trailer.. It looks to fit well against the wall or in the corner of a shop. The Portacube also weighs 95 pounds – no small consideration if you’re traveling across uneven ground at a jobsite.
There seems to be a lot of room for a variety of saws. You’re limited to 26-1/2 inches, but that should cover the majority of miter saw needs. $349 is, however, a bit steep for a miter saw stand. In the end, it’s a compelling design that we’ll have to wait to get our hands on before coming to any solid conclusions.
