DeWalt 20V MAX XR Brushless Drills Expand with Higher Performance Models

DeWalt has expanded the 20V MAX XR Brushless line as part of the company’s Made in the USA with Global Materials initiative. The two new additions include a Premium 3-Speed Drill/Driver (DCD991) and Premium 3-Speed Hammer Drill (DCD996). As nearly identical brothers, the DCD991 and DCD996 differ only in that the latter adds the hammering mechanism.

Both drills offer a 60 lumen LED light that’s located at the base of each unit. The light features 3 settings, which includes a spotlight mode with 20-minute delay option. DeWalt is bumping up the run time along with performance by kitting the new DeWalt 20V Max XR Brushless Drills with their 5.0 amp hour battery packs.

The new drills deliver 820 unit watts out of power, which is about a 25% increase over the current model. That ends up being in the 885 inch pound range for maximum torque. The current DCD995 performed very well in our Heavy Duty Drill Shootout, so the increase in power output for the DCD996 should only improve its standing.

DeWalt boots durability with nitro-carbonized metal ratcheting chucks along with coated and sealed switches that are moisture and dust resistant. Like all DeWalt 20V Max tools, these come with a 3 year warranty. Expect to find these showing up on store shelves in April.
