Milwaukee M18 Fuel Mag Drills Announced
There’s not much information on the new Milwaukee M18 Fuel Mag Drills at the moment, aside from the fact that they’re being sneak previewed at a distributor trade show this week. We’ll keep our eyes on the chatter and see if more details become available throughout the week. Here’s what we know at the moment…
The new Milwaukee M18 Fuel Mag Drills will be officially unveiled and available for purchase this summer. That means we’re likely to get the first official view when we go to this year’s Milwaukee New Product Symposium in June. There are also going to be two models available: the M18 Fuel Mag Drill and M18 Fuel Linesman’s Mag Drill.
Like many of the Fuel products, Milwaukee is telling us that they are exceeding corded tool performance with the Milwaukee M18 Fuel Mag Drill in internal testing. Typically, they’ll test the Fuel line against their own corded tools. I expect that we’ll get impressive performance as opposed to something that just beats out a Harbor Freight special. Milwaukee is also claiming the strongest hold on 1/4″ steel.
Both models feature a 1-1/2″ chuck size. The information that Milwaukee is releasing at the moment shows that they are getting a solid forty 13/16″ holes per charge. It doesn’t say if that was done with the 4.0 or 5.0 amp hour battery though. For now, let’s assume that they went with the best possible conditions and used their 5.0 RedLithium Battery.
Not familiar with drills like the upcoming Milwaukee M18 Fuel Mag Drill? It’s basically a portable drill press that uses a strong magnet on the base. This magnet allows the magnetic drill to securely hold to steel. This offers the flexibility to drill vertically, horizontally, or even at an angle precisely. With most magnetic drill applications calling for a hole saw, the alternative would be to use a hand held drill. The magnetic drill is more powerful than the hand held drill, meaning that holes are also drilled faster than you would typically get from a hand held drill.
