Masterforce Cordless Brushless Reciprocating Saw Hits the Pro Features, Keeps the Price in Reach

If you’re near one of the 300+ Menards retail stores in the country, the Masterforce brand likely isn’t a new name to you. The rest of us are getting used to it and we’ve been happy with what you get for your money so far. Today we’re looking at the Masterforce cordless brushless reciprocating saw.

As part of the 20V FlexPower line, it works with any of the FlexPower tools, batteries, and chargers. Like the impact driver and impact wrench, this also has a brushless motor.

Pros

  • Excellent cutting speed
  • Well-rounded feature set
  • Good value at $179 as a 5.0 Ah kit

Cons

  • No major drawbacks

Recommendation

The Masterforce cordless brushless reciprocating saw puts together a nice package for the price. Its cutting performance is excellent and certainly outshines less expensive brands. You also get most of the Pro features our crew looks for.

The biggest difference is that the vibration control isn’t as solid as the premium saws we use. Pair it with a quality blade and it can handle just about any demo task your day throws at you.

Performance

On paper, the Masterforce cordless brushless reciprocating saw matches high-performance Pro models with 3100 strokes per minutes and a 1-1/8″ stroke length. It also has an orbital action switch, so it doesn’t look like you’re going to miss out on any performance.

Reality tells the story as always.

Making a few test cuts in clean wood, the motor is able to maintain its high SPM rate. It cuts very quickly for a saw in the Prosumer gap between DIY and entry-level Pro. Even adding 16D framing nails to the mix, it’s able to chew through them as well as just about anything else in the same weight class.

Cutting through PVC should be easy for any reciprocating saw and it is for Masterforce. EMT is the same boat.

Thick metal, like rebar, is on the menu. With a feathered start, the saw is able to pick up a rhythm and work through rebar very well. As always, the trick is to have enough support that you can push the shoe against your material to minimize any vibration.

It’s in the vibration department that I see the biggest departure from premium saws. I notice more chatter in this than saws with built-in countermeasures. At the same time, I can also name a few saws from major manufacturers that have more chatter than Masterforce.

The performance is there and the vibration is manageable with enough support on the shoe. All that’s left is to pair it with a quality blade and I really don’t see any major gaps in what you can expect to cut compared to Pro-level saws.

Masterforce Cordless Brushless Reciprocating Saw Feature Set

Masterforce does a nice job hitting the major features you expect on a Pro model.

  • Orbital action switch – clean, snappy action
  • Rafter hook – removes with 2 Phillips head screws if you don’t want it on
  • Twist lock blade clamp – tool-free insertion and release
  • Pivoting and adjustable shoe – tool-free length adjustments
  • LED light – set inside below the blade

What’s missing are a few luxury items like one-hand blade insertion, blade ejection, and vibration control like you find on the Skilsaw Buzzkill. But overall, it checks off the right boxes.

Price

For $179, you get the Masterforce cordless brushless reciprocating saw, a 5.0 Ah battery, and a charger. Check out some of the other competition.

  • Craftsman CMCS300M1: $149 (brushed motor 4.0 Ah kit)
  • Masterforce 2410479: $179 (5.0 Ah kit)
  • Ryobi P1847: $189 (9.0 Ah kit)
  • Kobalt KRS 1824B03: $133 (bare tool – add $96 for a charger and 4.0 Ah battery)
  • Ridgid R8643B: $149 (bare tool – add $119 for a charger and 2.0 Ah battery)

The pricing is right in line with other trade-ready Prosumer models and bit less than the entry-level Pro models that come as a bare tool only.
