Rebuild Power Tool Battery Packs Online

With the current industry interest in the new Lithium-Ion batteries many of traditional battery powered cordless tool and cordless device manufacturers are not actively supporting the older technology NiCd or NiMh rechargeable batteries. This new website seems to enable consumers to rebuild nearly any cordless device’s rechargeable battery pack regardless of age, usage, voltage, or original maker. The problem is that it’s almost as expensive as a new OEM battery.

Doylestown, Pennsylvania based We Do Batteries announced that the company has established www.WeDoBatteries.Com where users can go on-line and order newly custom rebuilt battery packs for nearly all cordless tools or any other cordless devices that use NiCad or NiMh rechargeable batteries. This new website, in conjunction with a larger, expanded manufacturing facility in York, PA will allow them to better serve most rechargeable battery needs.

From the website:

WeDoBatteries.com uses the latest in fusion welding technology, new cells and 100% nickel tabs to build cordless battery packs that are as good as and usually better than the original OEM batteries. The newly assembled, completely tested and balanced battery pack will then be sent direct to your door or place of business usually via FedEx. UPS or USPS is also available.

The turn around time for getting the rebuilt battery pack back is around 48 hours (in the shop) plus shipping time. Options are available for expedited turnaround, but given the prices, we doubt anyone will want that. There are also options available to upgrade and purchase new very high capacity cells which increase the run time of the tool (but you’d want to make sure the charger you have supports it first).

WeDoBatteries.com can rebuild NiCd or NiMh battery packs in any voltage from 1.2 to 24 for any of the OEM tool makers such as Black & Decker, Bosch, Stanley Bostitch, Craftsman, DeWalt, Makita, Milwaukee, Panasonic, Paslode, Porter-Cable, Ryobi, and Skill. It can’t however, do anything with Li-ion technology – at least not yet.

In addition to the more common cordless power tools, the website can rebuild cordless packs for exit lights, remote control models, robots, auto booster/ jumper packs and vacuums. Also Segway and E-Bike batteries are available rebuilt or new. There is a wide variety of additional types of batteries that are also available on the website.

WeDoBatteries.com is also claiming to get more of the old, defective and not working battery packs so they can be recycled, rather than being improperly disposed of in land fills or trash dumps. Any cordless battery pack sent to them for rebuilding will have all of the old defective cells properly recycled.

So while it’s not necessarily inexpensive, if you’ve got a favorite cordless tool you want to keep using, this may be a way to extend its life a little bit longer.
