60V Max Side Handle Detect Grinder DCG418SHD
Safety should always be a top concern when using grinders, but DeWalt is taking it one step further. The 60V Max Side Handle Detect Grinder utilizes an integrated side-handle detect system that requires you to use both hands to operate the tool, similar to what we saw with Hilti’s SensTech system. This helps promote proper tool usage, plus, DeWalt equipped this tool with their anti-rotation system to prevent kickback in case the cutting or grinding wheel binds up.
This grinder has a top speed of 9,000 RPMs and is compatible with discs up to 6 inches. DeWalt tells us that the DCG418SHD is up to 30% more powerful than their corded DWE43114N grinder. This makes it one of DeWalt’s most powerful and safest grinders in this class.
Price: $649 (kit)
20V Max Brushless Cordless 4 1/2-Inch Grinders DCG407 & DCG408
DeWalt has just released a pair of 4.5- 5-inch angle grinders; one with a slide switch and the other with a paddle switch. Both tools top out at 9,000 RPMs, but the speed isn’t variable like we’ve seen on past models. They come with both Type A and B guards that allow them to fall under 62841 safety compliance standards.
These tools are fairly basic, but they also hit the market at a lower price point than some of the other models in DeWalt’s lineup. With that said, they still feature overload protection, anti-kickback protections, and an E-clutch for smooth operation. Plus, they’re a tad bit lighter than the DCG412, helping reduce fatigue during those long work days.
Price: $199 (bare tool), $299 (kit)
20V Max XR 7 1/4-Inch Metal Cutting Circular Saw DCS383
Metal cutting circular saws are a niche tool for most folks, but boy, are they handy. The DeWalt DCS383 is one of two models to hit the shelves since the old 18V Ni-Cad battery days. It features a 7 1/4-inch blade and delivers 1,400 MWO of power, and a max cut depth of 2 5/8 inches. This is a massive upgrade over the 20V DCS373, which used a 5 1/2-inch blade and only produced 460 MWO! There’s also an integrated chip collector to help keep your work area clean.
Price: $479 (bare tool), $649 (kit)
20V Max XR 12-Inch Double Bevel Sliding Miter Saw DCS785
Cut capacity and runtime are two major factors to consider when selecting a cordless miter saw, and the DeWalt DCS785 12-inch sliding miter saw has the answer for both. It boasts DeWalt’s largest cut capacity on the 20V platform, with an impressive 14 inches of horizontal reach, and the ability to cut 6 1/2-inch baseboard vertically.
So what about runtime? Well, DeWalt equipped this saw with what they’re calling Cut. Capture. Charge; a regenerative braking system that captures and redirects power back to the battery, which would otherwise be wasted. In addition to this, the DCS785 is compatible with all DeWalt 20V and FlexVolt batteries.
Along with these helpful features, this saw also features a double-bevel system, positive miter and bevel stops, improved dust collection, and an adjustment-free cut-line indicator for improved accuracy.
Price: $699 (bare tool), $879 (kit)
20V Max XR 10-Inch Double Bevel Fixed Miter Saw DCS714
One issue that plagues the miter saw industry is size. They typically have a larger footprint, and you can’t really stack anything on top of them to save a little space. Well, DeWalt has heard your cries and answered with the brand new 20V Max DCS714 Double Bevel Fixed Miter Saw, which is noticeably more compact than its 12-inch counterparts.
This is their first 10-inch model on the 20V platform, and the brushless motor produces a top speed of 4,900 RPMs. DeWalt tells us that you can expect to make up to 311 cuts in pine 2×4 material with an 8.0Ah PowerPack battery, and this saw also features the same regenerative braking system as the DCS785 to help with overall runtime.
As far as features go, you have the usual suspects. DeWalt equipped this dual-bevel saw with positive miter and bevel stops, an improved dust collection system, and a cut-line indicator for improved accuracy.
Don’t miss the “Fixed” part of the name, though. There’s no sliding action on this saw, making the cross cut capacity smaller and more appropriate for trim work.
Price: $399 (bare tool), $549 (kit)
20V Max XR Drill Driver and Hammer Drill DCD801 & DCD806
Just like the 20V Max Grinders we discussed earlier, the DeWalt DCD801 and DCD806 are essentially identical, outside of the 806’s hammer mode. Both models feature a 2-speed brushless motor and top out at 2,000 RPMs, 1,050 MWO, and an all-metal ratcheting 1/2-inch chuck. It also sports a 3-position foot-mounted LED work light, and DeWalt’s Anti-Rotation system for added safety.
This is a big improvement over the DCD778 in terms of overall power and size. It’s still not quite as small as the DeWalt 20V Atomic Hammer Drill, but it’s a good step in the right direction!
