Metabo HPT 4 1/2-Inch Cordless Angle Grinder

Metabo HPT Adds New 4 1/2-inch Angle Grinders To 36V MultiVolt Lineup

We’ve already gone over Metabo HPT‘s brushless corded angle grinders, which are available in several sizes in both the paddle-switch and slide-switch styles. Now, with the announcement of the Metabo HPT 4 1/2-Inch Cordless Angle Grinder, the brand adds battery-powered convenience into the mix. So, what else does this tool have to offer? Let’s take a look to see how it compares.

Metabo HPT 4 1/2-Inch Cordless Angle Grinder Performance

Metabo HPT 4 1/2-Inch Cordless Angle Grinder
  • Model: Metabo HPT G3612DVEQ6 (slide switch); Metabo HPT G3612DVFQ6 (paddle switch)
  • Maximum power output of 1500W
  • Brushless motor
  • Produces speeds of 3,200 RPM to 10,000 RPM
  • Six speed settings
  • Accepts any 38V/18V MultiVolt battery or AC adapter (sold separately)
  • Quick brake
  • Kickback protection

This angle grinder comes in two switch styles; slide-switch and paddle-switch. Other than this design difference (more on that later), they are essentially the same tool.

They feature a brushless motor that provides a maximum power output of 1500W, which is comparable power to many of Metabo HPT’s corded models. You can also expect speeds between 3,200 RPM and 10,000 RPM with six speed settings in between.

These grinders are on Metabo HPT’s MultiVolt battery platform, which lets you use any 18V or 26V MultiVolt battery for power. When you need all-day runtime, this system also lets you hook up an AC adapter.

Metabo HPT 4 1/2-Inch Cordless Angle Grinder Design

Metabo HPT Cordless Angle Grinder handle
  • Weight: 5.1 lbs (bare)
  • Grip diameter: 2.2 inches
  • Wheel size: 4.5 inches
  • Switch types: Paddle and Slide
  • Dust- and water-resistant
  • Dual LED light on both sides of gear housing

As mentioned above, the main difference between these two grinders is their switch design. Slide switches let you use the tool without constantly holding the switch, which helps combat fatigue when you’re working for longer periods of time.

On the other hand, paddle switches have to be held while in use and can’t be locked on, which can increase safety. Both designs have their advantages, and of course, every pro has their own preference.

These 4 1/2-inch grinders are dust- and water-resistant, and also feature dual LED lights on both sides of the gear housing to help you work in lower-light conditions.

Metabo HPT 4 1/2-Inch Cordless Angle Grinder Price

These grinders retail for $199 for the bare tool and we’re not seeing any kit options at the time of writing. Metabo HPT backs your purchase with a 1-year warranty.
