Bosch 12V Jig Saw Boasts Compact Size and Excellent Ergonomics
Jig saws get a somewhat negative reputation among some folks in the construction industry. However, those of us doing some of the lighter rough-cut work with our cabinets, countertops, and other woodworking projects can’t live without them. They’re actually kind of fun and not nearly as much of a pain as working with a reciprocating saw all day. Despite that, they do have some drawbacks in finding a really solid ergonomic design. The Bosch JS120BN 12V Jig Saw aims to alleviate some of that concern.
Bosch JS120 Jig Saw Features
In addition to ergonomics, Bosch was also shooting for a compact and lightweight tool. Designers started with a barrel grip and reduced its diameter to better fit hands. This resulted in a lighter weight while keeping the barrel grip benefit of handling in bottom-up cutting applications. That lighter weight is just 3.3 pounds with a 2.0 amp-hour battery. It’s also boasting a best-in-class height of 6-3/4 inches and a length of just under 9-1/2 inches.
“Pros want comfortable, well-designed tools that deliver results. We feel we’ve met that requirement with the new JS120 through its advantages of advanced ergonomics, such as a shorter distance from hand to cutting line.”
-Jim Stevens, product manager, fine woodworking, Robert Bosch Tool Corporation
A few other features are introduced to enhance the performance of the JS120BN. The 3/4″ stroke length combined with orbital action gives it a maximum cutting depth of 2-3/4 inches. The motor delivers up to 2800 strokes per minute while Electronic Motor Protection (EMP) and Electronic Cell Protection (ECP) protect your investment from overload and overheating.
The Bosch JS120N as a kit is expected to retail for $119. It will include a no-mar plastic overshoe, bevel wrench, anti-splinter insert, blade, and exact-fit insert tray that fits in Bosch L-Boxxes. At the moment, there is no kit with a battery and a charger available.
