The Hozo M-Cube 02 Laser Level Uses Suction to Stick Directly to Your Work Surface
Laser levels are ultra-useful tools that come in handy for a variety of applications, like hanging pictures, setting tile, and more. However, many of the ones we’ve reviewed in the past have relied on tripods or other types of mounting methods for leveling off the ground. Recently, we came across the Hozo M-Cube 02 Laser Level, which does things a little differently. I’ll walk you through what I’ve learned about how this tool works and who it’s a good fit for.

Wall Mounting
Hozo Design is a brand that just popped up on our radar, with the M-Cube 02 catching our eye for its unusual design. This laser level features a vacuum pump that attaches directly to your working surface with up to 55,000Pa of suction.
Hozo claims that it’s compatible with most wall materials, including drywall, brick, concrete, wood, stone, and more. This is pretty impressive, considering that some suctioning tools we’ve tested in the past struggle to adhere to some of these materials.
This eliminates the need for tripods in some applications, setting a nail or screw in others, and avoids having to manage a bubble level.
The M-Cube 02 is equipped with EPDM rubber suction cups, ensuring a secure hold without damaging your walls.
Functions and Accuracy
There are a few laser functions built into the design: laser leveling, angle finding, and measuring.
As a laser measure, the rated accuracy is ± 1/16-inch using the red laser or ± 1/8-inch using the green one. That’s on par with the laser measures we often use. You can measure up to 164 feet.
As an angle finder, it’s capable of ± 0.1° accuracy, which is also within our comfort range.
As a line laser, Hozo doesn’t state the accuracy rating, so that leaves us in limbo. For most projects, ± 1/8-inch at 33 feet is fine, and even ± 1/4-inch is useful when you’re hanging pictures or doing other close-up tasks. Since we don’t have a rating, we’re left with more questions than answers.
Using the TargetMate accessory, these functions combine to show measurements, calculate relative positions, find midpoints, and more. You can also connect your device to the Meazor app to control the M-Cube’s settings and see measurements remotely.
Hozo M-Cube 02 Laser Level Modular Design
Before we get into the design details, let’s go over a few nomenclature points for this tool. Since this tool has a modular design, it’s important to know what’s what.
The part that attaches to the wall is called the M-Cube 02 Anti-Gravity Laser Level.
Hozo designates the M-Cube Main Unit name for the digital readout device that performs measuring and angle-finding duties.
Both devices emit a green (or red) laser, and you attach the M-Cube Main Unit to the M-Cube 02 to have all three functions available on the device.
Once suctioned to your wall, you can turn it 360° to adjust your angle on the fly.
If you choose, you can also use the M-Cube 02 as a standalone laser level with horizontal and vertical bubble levels to keep your lines straight. However, you’ll miss out on the digital readout, measurement, and other calculating capabilities that the M-Cube Main Unit provides.
Finally, you can use the AttachMate accessory to hold a separate cross line laser level and cover your whole room. It features 1/4-inch and 5/8-inch adapter threads, so it’s compatible with most models.
Hozo M-Cube 02 Laser Level Price
There are a few different package options for this laser level. First, the laser level by itself retails for $149 as a bare tool. There’s also a combo option that includes the modular measurement device, which is $259.
Finally, Hozo carries a premium combo that you can find exclusively on their website, which includes the main unit, the digital measurement module, several accessories, and a cover. This package retails for $329.
Should You Buy It?
The M-Cube 02 Laser Level on its own has some potential thanks to its ability to suction itself to work surfaces. I wish my cross line laser mounts could do the same thing. However, its lack of function as a true cross line, three line, or 360° laser limits its function to basic vertical and horizontal leveling tasks.
Adding the Main Unit to gain angle finding and distance measuring certainly adds relevant functions, and the app connection could be helpful as well.
It clearly took a lot of thought and design effort to create this tool, but its design complexity also makes for a tool that’s complex to use if you’re going to get the most benefit from it. The mechanical elements of the design simplify a lot of the physical characteristics of the tool. You’ll have to take the time to learn how to get the most from its measuring capabilities, though.
From what I can tell, you may see a lot of value in this tool if you’re serious about interior design installations. For standard Pro and DIY construction and remodeling projects, you’re likely better off buying your cross line laser, angle finder, and laser distance measure separately.
