CEL Power8 Workshop Cordless Benchtop Tools Review

CEL Power8 Workshop Cordless Benchtop Tools Review

When we first got a glimpse of the Power8 Workshop we couldn’t believe what we were seeing. It seemed impossible to combine all of the tools that the product comes with into a small, easily portable case. It was both amazing to see, and also hard to imagine the engineering and care that had to be taken to ensure everything worked so well together. This is also the first cordless bench-top system we’ve ever heard of, and the interoperability of the tools is simply something you have to experience to appreciate. For anyone who has very restrictive space requirements, having a single cordless tool that can handle the duties of table saw, drill/driver, jigsaw, drill press, circular saw and more is something that we thought only Michael Bay’s Decepticons or Autobots would be able to pull off.

The Ridgid table saw has been popular among those looking for a tool offering a tremendous bang for their buck. While they have two currently shipping models (and likely no more until the ridiculous table saw lawsuits stop) this review deals largely with their portable jobsite table saw. This saw has a strong, best-in-class 15-amp motor with soft-start, so it is sure to last a very long time while reducing motor wear and those annoying breaker trips. A single height and bevel adjustment handwheel allows for quick setting of blade height and bevel, but of course, doesn’t offer the control of a dual wheel system found in larger cabinet saws.

Craftsman Professional 10-inch Jobsite Saw

Craftsman Professional Table Saw

In 2010 it will be mandatory for all table saws to have riving knives in order to meet UL approval. Craftsman, while not the first to do so, has added theirs early and done it in a way thatreally makes for some seriously advantageous upgrades to an already decent table saw. The new Craftsman Professional Jobsite Table Saw has a lot of the power and features of a full-size table saw, but in a much more compact and portable design. Regarding portability, a telescoping handle and 6-inch wheels ensures that you can roll this saw around like a piece of luggage.

Delta Unisaw Table Saw

Delta Machinery, which introduced the industry’s first and only 10-inch industrial cabinet saw with the Unisaw name in the 1930’s, announced that it has completely re-engineered and re-designed its flagship table saw from the ground up. One of the unique features of this new saw is the riving knife. A lever on the front of the saw can be pulled to instantly (and toollessly) drop the riving knife down for non-through (blind) cuts. You can even remove the riving knife as needed, simply by pulling it out.
