Bosch GBH2-26 SDS-Plus Bulldog Xtreme Rotary Hammer

Bosch recently announced a new addition to its deep line of rotary hammers with the Bosch GBH2-26 SDS-Plus Bulldog Xtreme Rotary Hammer. Weighing in at 6.4 pounds, it features an upgraded 8.0-amp motor that delivers 2.0 foot pounds of impact energy. Like most rotary hammers, the latest Bulldog offers three modes: drilling only, hammer drilling, and chiseling.

In addition, the Bosch 1-Inch SDS-Plus Bulldog Xtreme Rotary Hammer has a no load speed of 0 – 1300 RPM for fast drilling and under-load bpm at 0 – 5100 for masonry applications. It also features Vario-Lock positioning, a variable-speed reversing trigger (integral clutch), a power cord with flexible ball turret that pivots 35°, and a pistol-style soft grip handle. The SDS-plus bit system allows for tool-free bit changes with automatic bit locking. The bare tool includes an auxillary handle, depth gauge, cleaning rag, and case and will retail for $219.

“The job of any rotary hammer is to perform in tough applications and tough conditions. The Bosch GBH2-26 Bulldog Xtreme is the latest in a line of heritage rotary hammers built from the user’s point of view. That means maximizing power and minimizing weight. Users have told us they want to get the job done with a tool that doesn’t break their back, but can handle just about any level of concrete.”

Our Take

There are three current models carrying the Bosch 1-Inch SDS-plus Bulldog Xtreme Rotary Hammer name right now with the Bosch BGH2-26 being the newest. Bumping up to the 8.0 amp motor didn’t bring much in the way in increased capacity, save for a little better wood drilling diameter. We should be able to expect some additional torque though.

The impact rate actually came down from 5800 to 5100 IPM. The big deal is that they’ve kept the weight from creeping up with the larger motor and it still stands at 6.4 pounds. So is it worth upgrading? We’ll have to wait until we get one in our hands to see how much of a difference the motor makes.
