Klein All-Purpose Electrician's Scissors

Need another space-saving option for all your cable cutting, stripping, and deburring applications? The Klein All-Purpose Electrician’s Scissors might fit the bill as one of your go-to multi-use tools. It has a host of features to work through. As always, we’ll take a look at how well they work compared to their dedicated counterparts and see if they’re a good fit.

Scissor Me Timbers

The Klein All-Purpose Electrician’s Scissors include a number of features to make the job easier. The forged high carbon steel blades can cut up to 14 AWG wire. It has a cutting notch that improves leverage on tougher, thicker-gauge cuts. Admittedly, this probably isn’t the toughest cut our scissors will ever make, but for what it’s worth, it cuts through Cat5 cable really easily.

The blades have some light serration to help grip wires while you cut. When applying pressure to blades without serration, sometimes the scissoring action can push stubborn wire along the edge of the blade, and you won’t wind up actually cutting anything. The serration works to hold the wire in place while you bear down on the handle. Scrapers on both blades help with cleaning wire as well.

There’s a deburring notch to help clean out and deburr conduit. The notch works pretty well, due to having something of a sharper cutting edge that scrapes burrs off pretty easily. However, it’s not going to beat some of the other deburring tools you’re already using.

These all-purpose scissors also include a couple of notches for wire stripping applications. They can successfully strip the shielding off of 19 and 23 AWG wire. Actual wire strippers do work better, but if you’ve only got a few wires to strip and you’re not trying to root around through your tool pouch, these will get the job done.

Klein put some emphasis on the comfort of these scissors as well. The dipped ergonomic handles are comfortable while cutting. Plus, the design allows you to hold the scissors in a variety of positions.

Final Thoughts

The Klein All-Purpose Electrician’s Scissors are pretty handy to have around. They’re comfortable to hold, they don’t take up a lot of space, and they don’t weigh a whole lot. They kind of function like a jack-of-all-trades type of tool; they do a lot of things, but none of them quite as well as a dedicated tool would. So, they’ll definitely strip and cut wire, but probably not as quickly and efficiently as either a pair of wire strippers or some wire snips would, respectively. Still, if you’ve got some lighter work to do and you’re not trying to switch between tools a whole lot, these scissors are pretty helpful.
