DeWalt Joins the Multi-Head Game with 5-in-1 Drill Driver

Cordless drills are one of those tools that everyone from DIYers to industrial professionals needs, but they don’t always fit where you need them to. The DeWalt 12V Max Cordless 5-in-1 Drill Driver aims to fix all that.

Choosing to develop a multi-head drill driver is an easy choice, but there are some significant decisions that you have to make starting with the power source. In this case, DeWalt chooses to work from their 12V Max battery system. It’s not nearly as deep as the 20V Max line, but they have been steadily building it out and it’s a more compact platform to build from.

From there, the drill driver gets a brushless motor to make the most of what the 12V batteries have to offer.

The end result is a multi-head drill that’s less than 5 inches long with a 2-speed gearbox capable of 450 or 1500 RPM that has 15 clutch settings to help you dial in the power you need. We don’t have an official word on how much torque it has, though.

Of course, the big deal is the DCD703’s versatility. The DeWalt 12V Max Cordless 5-in-1 Drill Driver comes with 4 attachments and you can use it without any of them on there for its 5th function.

Without an attachment, it’s a compact 1/4-inch hex screwdriver that’s about the size of an impact driver. Realistically, you can pop a 1/4-inch hex twist drill bit in there, but it’s not going to hold as well as the 3/8-inch chuck, so we’d stick with driver bits in the attachment-less configuration. A 90° right angle attachment comes in the set along with 1/4-inch hex offset and 1/4-inch quick release collet (impact driver-style) heads.

DeWalt DCD703 Attachments

  • 1/4-inch screwdriver (drill/driver without an attachment)
  • 3/8-inch drill chuck
  • 1/4-inch hex quick release collet
  • 1/4-inch hex right angle attachment

The nice thing about the right angle and offset attachments is that you can rotate them into multiple positions to get the angle of attack you’re looking for.
