The Hilti 3/4-Inch High-Torque Impact Wrench Is Their Strongest Model Yet

There’s no denying that Hilti has been a key player in the construction industry for a long time. We’ve seen a few familiar tools hit the market on the Hilti Nuron platform, but they’ve also brought some newcomers into the group. Among them is the Hilti Nuron 3/4-inch High-Torque Impact Wrench, which they claim is their strongest one yet!

Hilti 3/4-Inch High-Torque Impact Wrench Performance

Hilti 3/4-Inch High Torque Impact Wrench
  • No-Load Speed: 1000 RPM (1), 1250 RPM (2)
  • Impact Rate: 2500 IPM
  • Fastening Torque: 627 ft-lbs (1), 1180 ft-lbs (2)
  • Breakaway Torque: 1475 ft-lbs

Speed and Torque

At its heart, the SIW 10-22 is power by a brushless motor that produces 1,250 RPMs and 2,500 impacts per minute. Hilti rates the fastening torque at 627 ft-lbs on low and 1,180 ft-lbs on high. As for breakaway torque, it specs at an impressive 1,475 ft-lbs of nut busting torque. That makes it the strongest cordless impact wrench currently available on the Hilti Nuron line.

In-House Testing

When it comes to testing impact wrenches in house, we have a few different methods. My personal favorite is our bolt break rig. We set eight grade-8 hardened steel nuts to 600 ft-lbs of torque and average how long it takes to break each nut.

During our tests, the Hilti SIW 10-22 maintained a 1.3-second average—not surprising, given its torque specs. Regardless, that’s more than enough power to loosen stubborn heavy-duty truck and trailer lug nuts.

  • Loosening large rusty bolts
  • Industrial maintenance and repair work
  • Bolting structural steel connections
  • Securing 1/2-inch to 1 1/8-inch diameter structural bolts

Hilti 3/4-Inch High-Torque Impact Wrench Design Notes

Hilti Impact Wrench Profile
  • Model: Hilti SIW 10-22
  • Power Source: Hilti Nuron B 22 battery
  • Weight: 6.3 lbs (bare), 9.2 lbs (with recommended B 22-170 battery)
  • Head Length: 8.5 in.
  • Anvil: 3/4 in. through hole with friction ring

Size and Weight

The SIW 10-22 impact wrench weighs in at 6.3 pounds as a bare tool and 9.2 pounds with the recommended B 22-170 battery. It measures 8.5 inches from tip to tail and stands 9.3 inches tall.

In spite of its robust profile, this impact wrench is very well-balanced. Don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely on the heavier side, but the battery helps offset what would otherwise be a very top-heavy tool.

The grip is draped in a smooth rubber overmold and includes a few small grooves to help channel away sweat. As with most of Nuron tools I’ve tested, the handle shape is very ergonomic and contours nicely to my medium-sized hands.

Controls

Speed Controls

Hilti kept the controls pretty straightforward. They utilize a simple foot-mounted control button that lets you quickly toggle between speeds, even while wearing work gloves.

Anvil

3/4-Inch anvil with through hole

Since this is intended for heavy-duty tasks, Hilti opted for a friction ring anvil with a through hole for added safety. Personally, I prefer this design or a pin detent style because swapping sockets is a little easier. If you’re consistently working at height, Hilti offers a retainer pin so you can make sure your sockets stay in place.

Nuron Technology Benefits

Let’s take a closer look at Nuron’s specific benefits. With the updated battery design, we expect longer runtime, especially when you need to keep the impact wrench under a heavier load for longer periods of time. Part of it is the cell selection, part of it is the cooling technology inside, and part is the resistance reduction of the electrical connections. All of that works together to power the motor more efficiently than before.

For those of you managing an entire tool crib, the batteries’ ability to automatically store and transmit data about the tool and battery is a huge help in making your management duties more efficient. Even if You’re using multiple tools with one battery, it stores the data and transmits it via the charger when you put it on.

Hilti 3/4-Inch High-Torque Impact Wrench Price

The Hilti SIW 10-22 retails for $418.95 as a bare tool. At the time I’m writing this, there are no kit options available, so you’ll need to pick up a battery and charger if you’re not already on the Hilti Nuron platform.

If you need to outfit a jobsite, Hilti does offer discounted fleet pricing. This works out to $15 per month and includes no-cost repairs, tool replacement, and theft coverage.

As always, Hilti backs the SIW 10-22 with their 20-year warranty and up to 2 years of free service.

The Bottom Line

The Hilti Nuron SIW 10-22 is undoubtedly the strongest impact wrench in Hilti’s current lineup, displacing multiple Ultimate Class models from the previous line. Its straightforward design and brute strength make it a great option for industrial maintenance as well as heavy-duty automotive work. While there is some room for improvement on the feature set, Hilti definitely raised the bar for what you can expect from their cordless impact wrench lineup.
