Using electricity rather than straight insulation to maintain temperature, the Makita DCW180 is a compressor-type cooler that operates in either cooling or warming mode with a total of six temperature settings.

  • Cooling mode temps: 15°F, 30°F, 40°F, 50°F
  • Warming mode temps: 130°F, 140°F

Additionally, there are multiple ways to power the cooler. While it does run on Makita 18V LXT batteries (sold separately), you can choose to use either one or two batteries, depending on your runtime needs. You can also choose to power it using a 12V or 24V DC cord in a vehicle, or a 120 AC from a standard outlet.

With its 20L capacity, the Makita 18V X2 LXT cooler and warmer room for your food, beverages, ice packs, or even that aforementioned brisket. It’s capable of running up to 17 hours using two 6.0Ah batteries at 40° F or 5 hours at 0° F. On the warming side, you’re looking at 4 hours to keep the temp locked in at 140° F.

The cooler/warmer also features an LED display that allows you to keep track of both the temperature and battery level.

The Makita DCW180 retails for $629 with the cords you need for AC and DC use. There’s no kit option with batteries, though. It’s backed by a 3-year limited warranty.
