Bosch BM3 Positioning Device Preview

On the job site, lasers are great tools to help with the job and lend themselves to a sense of awe wherever they are used. In fact, Clint, Tom, and I were toying around with a new Bosch GLL 3-50 three line laser a couple of days ago. Needless to say, we had a little too much fun being boys and imagining all the trouble we could get into with a work site laser. As the patrons in our favorite downtown coffee shop began to stare a little less subtly, we moved on to discussing the use of the laser to help perfectly install new basketball goals. How do you get a laser to sit still ten feet in the air though? With some help from Bosch and the new BM3 Positioning Device, of course.

Bosch Tools BM3 Positioning Device Features

The Bosch BM3 positioning device accomplishes its primary task as a mount by using magnets for metal surfaces, retractable feet for floors and other horizontally flat surfaces, it can be attached to wood/drywall with screws, or attached to a ceiling grid using the spring clip. When it comes to holding the laser, the BM3 will handle any device that mounts using a 1/4 inch, 20 thread mounting hole and weighs up to one pound. Once attached, the Positioning Device features a fine tune knob to make sure that horizontal leveling is done quickly and accurately. Obviously it’s not for use with something like the self-standing Bosch GSL 2 surface laser, but for everything else it will do quite nicely.

A quick online search found a price of $24.99. For more information, check out Bosch’s website.

Fortunately, the Bosch BM3 positioning device can keep people like us from having to resort to Plan B. Although, there are some people that might like to see Clint DeBoer sit on my shoulders and try to hold a laser steady while Tom Gaige hangs upside down from the rafters and gives us directions on where to move with a pencil held in his teeth.
