Werner Prioritizes Safety With Fall Protection Concrete Anchor

Back in 2022, we talked with a representative at Werner to give you the rundown on their new self-retracting lifeline update. We’ve also gone over several of the brand’s fall protection devices, including the Proform SP harness and the High-Heat Harness. Now we’re going over the Werner R3 Concrete Anchor to see how it promotes further safety on at-height jobs.

The R3 Concrete Anchor provides workers with a strong anchorage point when working on concrete structures at height. It’s also reusable— Werner tells us it’s cycle tested for up to 5,000 uses.

This anchor’s stainless-steel design makes it corrosion- and rust-resistant on both the tri-wedge and D-ring. It’s also omnidirectional, meaning the connector can rotate 360 degrees and flip back and forth 180 degrees. This design allows for horizontal, vertical, or overhead use while also increasing maneuverability.

Installation

To install the R3 anchor, drill a 3/4-inch diameter hole at least 3.5 inches deep into a concrete surface and clear it of any dust. Then, place your thumb on the button and two fingers around the stop sleeve, and compress your fingers and thumb together. Push the anchor in until the stop sleeve is flush with the concrete surface. Tug on the D-ring to set it in place against the inner walls of the concrete hole and ensure there is no movement.

Removal

Traditional concrete fall-protection anchors require a separate tool for removal. Werner wanted to streamline the removal process by including a quick-release function that removes the R3 anchor from concrete in seconds without additional tools.

To remove the anchor, place your thumb on the button and two fingers around the stop sleeve once again and compress. Then, it’s simply a matter of pulling the anchor out of the hole. If it’s stuck, lightly tap it with a hammer to encourage it out.
