EGO Introduces The First Backpack Sprayer in the 56V Power+ Lineup
EGO offers tons of outdoor power equipment and lifestyle products on its 56V battery system. Now, the brand is introducing a 4-gallon cordless backpack sprayer, and it has some promising performance and design features. What applications is it best suited for, and how does it compare to other battery-powered sprayers on the market? I’ll help you decide if it’s the right tool for your spraying needs.
EGO 4-Gallon Backpack Sprayer Performance
- Model: EGO BSP3500
- Max pressure rating: 350 PSI
- Max flow rate: 0.6 GPM
- Power source: EGO 56V battery
- Max spray distance: 21 feet
- Max runtime: 1.5 hours
- Adjustable pressure knob
The EGO BSP3500 backpack sprayer features a brushless motor powered by a 56V EGO battery (sold separately). It has an impressive top pressure rating, reaching up to 350 PSI on the strongest setting. For flow rates, it delivers up to 0.6 GPM on the top end.
This pressure rating is higher than we’ve seen from any other backpack sprayer from a major manufacturer. The 0.6 GPM flow rate is relatively low, but sprayers don’t necessarily need high flow rates. They’re typically a spray-only tool, as opposed to pressure washers, which require a decent GPM level to move dirt and debris effectively.
Note: Learn more about GPM vs PSI in pressure washers.
EGO tells us this sprayer has a maximum vertical spray distance of 19.7 feet, and up to 21 feet horizontally. These figures make it ideal for a variety of spraying applications, including softwashing, pest control, weed management, and more.
The pressure adjustment dial is located on the wand, making it easy to quickly adjust your power setting to the application.
Using a 2.5Ah battery, you can spray for up to 1.5 hours (up to 52 gallons) on low without a nozzle, or up to 25 minutes (up to 15 gallons) on the highest pressure setting with a nozzle.
EGO 4-Gallon Backpack Sprayer Design
- Weight: 16.7 pounds
- IPX4 rating
- Translucent tank
- Capacity: 4 gallons
- Includes four nozzles
- Padded back and waist straps
This backpack sprayer weighs 16.7 pounds as a bare tool. As expected, adding an EGO battery and filling the tank with liquid will raise the weight by quite a bit. However, thanks to the padded back and waist straps, most of the weight is offset onto your back and torso.
The sprayer tank has a 4-gallon capacity, with liter and gallon measurement lines on either side. The tank is also translucent to help you keep track of your solution levels at a glance.
EGO includes four nozzles with this sprayer: an adjustable cone nozzle, a foaming nozzle, a fan nozzle, and a shower nozzle. However, this unit doesn’t appear to include an onboard storage location for the nozzles, which is one area where the design can be improved.
Finally, the BSP3500 backpack sprayer carries an IPX4 ingress rating, making it resistant to water splashes.
EGO 4-Gallon Backpack Sprayer Price
This sprayer retails for $329 as a bare tool. There are no kits available at the time of writing, so be sure to pick up a battery and charger if you’re not already on EGO’s 56V platform. EGO backs your purchase with a 5-year warranty.
Should You Buy It?
When looking at tools in its class, EGO usually sits towards the top in performance. This is partly attributed to its large 56V batteries, which provide plenty of output and runtime for the Power+ tools. In the case of this 4-gallon backpack sprayer, we’re looking at top-level pressure ratings and a design built for a comfortable experience.
However, it costs a pretty penny, at $329 for the bare tool. As EGO’s only backpack blower (so far), it may not be the best fit for those who only plan on using it for small jobs a few times per year. Though if you use a sprayer as part of your regular outdoor maintenance, this one will get the job done.
