Clint DeBoer
Founder & General Manager, Pro Tool Reviews
Clint DeBoer has spent more than three decades pushing the limits of technology, media, and hands-on testing. He founded Pro Tool Reviews in 2008 with the goal of giving professionals and serious DIYers the honest, data-driven tool coverage they couldn’t find anywhere else. Today, PTR is the largest power tool review publication in the industry—and Clint is still finding new ways to improve tool testing.

More About Clint
Clint DeBoer’s career didn’t start with power tools—it began in a Hollywood post-production studio. After graduating at the top of his class with an Associate’s Degree in Recording Engineering, he joined Soundelux Studios in 1994, one of the largest audio post-production companies in the world. Working on dozens of feature films, Clint became a skilled dialogue editor, Foley editor, rerecording engineer, and sound designer. Those years of editing helped him develop both his eyes and ears to notice those details that would come in handy later during his professional reviewing career.
His client list during those years reads like a Hollywood marquee: Universal Pictures, Paramount Home Entertainment, Hollywood Pictures, Nickelodeon, NASA, Planet Hollywood, SEGA, and NASCAR, among others. He later became one of the company’s senior AVID video editors, where he edited preshow videos for several major theme parks, including Universal Studios Orlando. Along the way, he earned THX Technician I and II certifications, THX Video certification, and achieved ISF Level II status—credentials that reflect his obsession with objective quality standards.
I want to bring the same rigor I brought to film post-production, from audio editing, to foley, to remixing and video editing to every tool review. Details matter. Standards matter.”
In early 1996, Clint founded CD Media, Inc., a digital publishing company that became the launchpad for several successful online properties. He served as Editor-in-Chief of Audioholics for twelve years, taking it from a small enthusiast site and building it into one of the most respected AV enthusiast publications online before leaving to co-found AV Gadgets some years later. After designing and creating publications that readers actually trust, he had a pretty solid blueprint for developing Pro Tool Reviews.
A BRIEF HISTORY OF PRO TOOL REVIEWS
In 2008, Clint launched Pro Tool Reviews from his garage in Central Florida, driven by a simple observation: professionals who spent serious money on serious tools deserved serious reviews without any fluff or pay-to-play rankings. He decided to focus primarily on hands-on testing using as many non-subjective tests as possible. The site grew rapidly, and in 2017, Clint expanded the scope of PTR with the inclusion of outdoor power equipment to help landscaping professionals be better prepared for the coming battery-powered revolution. He also created the Pro Tool Innovation Awards, an annual awards program that recognizes the most innovative tools, accessories, fasteners, and products across the trades.
Today, Pro Tool Reviews publishes hundreds of hand tool, power tool, and accessory reviews every year. The editorial team Clint built reaches everyone from journeymen tradespeople and construction pros to serious DIYers and woodworkers who demand both honesty and clarity. In a media landscape crowded with affiliate-first, hands-off content, PTR remains unique and editorially independent.
Beyond the Jobsite
When he’s not reviewing tools, Clint is, first and foremost, a husband and a father to his two awesome sons. He loves to travel the globe with his wife, and his faith is central to his life. He loves Jesus, reads the Bible at least once every year, and has written thoughtfully about craftsmanship and ethics through a Biblical lens. He credits God for both his success and the success of the entire PTR team and publication as a whole.
The audio engineering background never fully went away. He still has a deep appreciation for high-fidelity sound, which is why jobsite radios and Bluetooth speakers end up in the PTR test rotation alongside cordless drills. And yes, he has strong opinions about both!
Clint is based in central Florida, where he maintains a shop that is equal parts working lab and office space (not the movie!). New tools arrive almost daily, and very few leave untested.
Pro Tool Reviews and Clint’s opinions on tools and the tool industry have been cited and featured across trade media, national publications, and manufacturer briefings. His IMDB credits from the Soundelux years are still live, a reminder that the path to becoming the Internet’s most-read tool critic happened to run straight through Hollywood.
