Bosch is expanding their line of laser distance measures smartly this time. The Bosch Blaze GLM 50 CX 165 ft laser distance measure takes the basics from the GLM 50 and adds some capabilities and user convenience. The CX model starts with the same 165 ft. range and 1/16″ accuracy that is found in its brother. What it adds is an easier-to-read color screen and Bluetooth capability.
We certainly welcome the easy-to-read screen. Even with a backlit screen, traditional screens with black numbers can still be tough to read. Where the Bosch Blaze GLM 50 CX really earns a living is with the Bluetooth functionality. There’s going to be a learning curve here, but Bluetooth-enabled smartphones and tablets will be able to transfer accurate measurements to Bosch Measure & Document and FloorPlan apps. Perhaps the only thing users will be asking for is a lithium-ion battery. Still, with Bluetooth and a color screen, the $149 price point is pretty attractive.

Bosh really needs to come out with a rechargeable battery powered units with micro usb charging cable integrated into the units across the board. It will keep everyone from losing or breaking the back cover and allow dirt or dust to accumulate in around the batteries. I have a 2011 model which requires AAA batteries. I use it on a daily basis and the batteries die all the time. Does the GLM 50 c work with Chief Architect’s Room Planner?
