Caterpillar (CAT) to Move Global Headquarters to Irving Texas

Caterpillar Move To Texas

Construction Giant Caterpillar Sets Sights on the Dallas-Fort Worth Area

Caterpillar, one of the largest manufacturers of heavy construction and mining equipment, released a statement that it plans to move its global headquarters from Deerfield, Illinois to Irving, Texas. It joins the likes of Tesla, Google, Samsung, Oracle, Hewlett Packard, Charles Schwab, and over 125 others who expanded or even moved their headquarters to the Lone Star State.

Caterpillar’s existing office in Irving, Texas (just northwest of Dallas) will act as the new headquarters beginning in 2022. We wanted to take a look at what this might mean for current employees. How this move affects the company’s presence in the construction world also has our interest.

Caterpillar Moving to Texas – The Big Deal

Hundreds of companies (many of them technology-related) have taken the plunge and relocated to Texas since 2019. We’re not too surprised to see Caterpillar joining the ranks and migrating from their Deerfield, Illinois office. Moving down south to Texas gives them access to a very business-friendly environment. Quite frankly, Texas seems to be giving even our home state of Florida a run for its money!

Caterpillar indicated this move supports the company’s vision for growth.

“We believe it’s in the best strategic interest of the company to make this move, which supports Caterpillar’s strategy for profitable growth as we help our customers build a better, more sustainable world.”

Jim Umpleby, chairman and CEO of Caterpillar (CAT)

Of course, Caterpillar already had a presence before the headquarters move to Texas. CAT has had a presence there since the 1960s in several aspects. The Irving office opened its doors in early 2022. Before the announcement that it would be the new headquarters, it served as the hub of the company’s electric power division.

From the reports we read so far, nearly all of CAT’s 230 employees from the Illinois location are expected to make the transition to the Texas headquarters over time. Worldwide, Caterpillar currently employs over 107,000 people.
