EGO LM2125SP Self-Propelled Lawn Mower Performance
Cutting Power
This EGO mower utilizes a brushless motor that spins a 21-inch blade with some very real gas-replacement power. It churns out 6.0 ft-lbs of cutting torque and up to 2,800 RPMs, giving you the cutting performance of a 140cc gas mower.
For us, this is just fine for effectively taking on St. Augustine grass as well as some hearty Florida bahiagrass on regular maintenance cuts and it can handle a bit of overgrowth as well. We managed to stall the motor several times in the thickest overgrown areas. However, EGO makes stronger mowers such as the Select Cut XP if you’re consistently having to deal with heavier cutting loads.
One nice feature is the automatic power boost. The motor will dial up the power when it senses the blade is hitting a higher load so you can power through those tougher patches of grass.
Runtime
The runtime can be a little tricky to nail down because there are so many factors at play—temperature, ambient humidity, grass height, grass density, etc. We tested runtime with a typical maintenance cut here at our shop and aimed to take off about 1 1/2 inches.
EGO estimates you’ll get around 60 minutes of runtime using the kitted 7.5Ah battery in optimal conditions. We got just over 55 minutes of continuous runtime which is very close and well within our margin of comfort.
Approximate Runtime | |
Light Load | 60 min. |
Medium Load | 45 min. |
Heavy Load | 30 min. |
Cut Quality
Unlike the EGO Select Cut mowers, this model uses a single blade rather than a dual-blade setup. Despite only having one blade, it produces a very clean cut and leaves very few stragglers in its wake. You may see a few more if you’re mowing at full speed in thick grass so slow down a bit in those areas to keep the cut quality up.
The mulching and bagging functions are very effective but the rear discharge leaves a bit to be desired. The trade-off for rear discharge is you sacrifice some of the spread to get deck airflow with less interruption. By going that route, EGO is able to design the deck so the mulching and bagging characteristics are better. If you do find you need to side discharge to deal with overgrowth, wait to cut until the grass is dry and it’ll do just fine.
EGO LM2125SP Self-Propelled Lawn Mower Design Notes
Drive Controls
EGO employs its Touch Drive system in combination with a rotating speed dial. This self-propel drive style uses two buttons on either side of the handle that you naturally depress with your palms rather than something using a thumb lever or full bar.
We really like the speed control dial because it’s very easy to access while mowing and has positive stops that make it easier to set and maintain a consistent speed. Plus the engagement buttons offer multiple grip positions without adding additional fatigue on your hands or fingers.
Deck Height
We really like the single-point deck height adjustment rather than having to adjust each wheel individually. The cut height on this mower ranges from 1-1/4 inches all the way up to 4 inches, covering just about any grass species your lawn may have.
Deck Height Setting | Approximate Cutting Height |
1 | 1-1/4 in. |
2 | 1-1/2 in. |
3 | 2 in. |
4 | 2-1/2 in. |
5 | 3 in. |
6 | 3-1/2 in. |
7 | 4 in. |
Vertical Storage
It’s no surprise to find EGO continuing to offer vertical storage with this mower and it’s a really easy process. Simply squeeze the green lever on the left against the handle and swing it around. To save a little extra space, you can drop the telescoping handle to make things a little more compact.
You use the same lever to select between the two handle heights. I’m right at six feet tall, but I actually prefer the lower height setting because it allows my arms to hang more naturally while mowing.
LED Headlights
Like most battery-powered mowers, this mower has a pair of LED headlights that sit on the front of the battery housing. EGO added an on/off button to the control panel so you can use them as needed.
Additional Features
- Battery life gauge
- IPX4 water resistant

The Bottom Line
The EGO LM2125SP serves as a significant step up from EGO’s entry-level self-propelled mower in both design and the battery that comes with it. It maintains solid performance and adds an upgraded drive system that’s easier and more comfortable to use. Expect it to easily handle 1/4-acre lots and as much as 1/2 an acre in light cutting conditions.
