The Flex 24V Compact Impact Driver Drops The Brand Into A New Weight Class

A few years back, we got our hands on Flex’s flagship Brushless Impact Driver for some in house testing, and it definitely impressed our crew! However, one of the hallmarks of Flex 24V tools is they tend to be a bit bigger and heavier than their contemporaries. In response to this, they now have a compact lineup. Today, we’re taking an in-depth look at the Flex Compact Impact Driver so you can decide if it’ll fill the gaps in your tool arsenal.

Flex Compact Impact Driver Performance

Flex Compact Impact Driver
  • No-load Speed: 0-1300, 3000 RPM
  • Impact Rate: 0-3800 IPM
  • Max Torque: 1700 in-lbs
  • Collet: 1/4 in.

Just like its full-size counterparts, the Flex compact impact driver features a brushless motor and is no slouch when it comes to power. It has a top speed of 3,000 RPMs and an impact rate of 3,800 IPM. Additionally, it boasts 1,700 in-lbs of torque for quickly driving mid-sized fasteners.

Speed Controls

This model features three performance modes that give it a little more versatility. There are two speed modes and self-tapping mode that provides a little more control. In self-tapping mode, the tool will stop rotation once the fastener is flush with your material. This mode helps to prevent stripping or breaking the fasteners. Keep in mind that even with this mode engaged it’s still possible, so always be mindful when working with delicate materials.

Flex Compact Impact Driver Design Notes

Flex Compact Impact Driver Profile
  • Model: Flex FX 1331
  • Power Source: Flex 24V battery
  • Weight: 2.0 lbs (bare), 3.4 lbs (with 2.5Ah battery)
  • Height: 7-7/8 in.
  • Head Length: 5 in.

This compact impact driver tips the scales at 2 pounds, even. Adding the recommend 2.5Ah battery brings that number up to 3.4 pounds. It measures 5 inches from tip to tail, but the big deal here is that the head only 2-1/2 inches wide. The slim profile allows you to work in tight spaces where larger tools may not fit.

Fortunately, Flex didn’t stray too far when it comes to handle ergonomics. This tool features their classic textured rubber overmold with large grooves for channeling sweat and dirt. The handle has a nice curve to it that fits in your hand well.

The Bottom Line

While it’s not as feature-rich or at the same level of performance as the flagship Flex FX1371, this compact impact driver fills an important gap in the Flex 24V lineup. It still has the driving power and ergonomics that Pros demand, and has a retail price that’s a little easier on the bottom line.
