Professional Tool Reviews for Pros

Greenworks 60V Pole Saw and Hedge Trimmer

Greenworks 60V OPE Line Gets Some More Versatility

Folks on the Greenworks 60V platform will have two new reasons to get excited to get to work in the yard this spring. The Greenworks 10″ pole saw looks like the first of its kind for the 60V line, while this edition of the 60V 20″ articulating pole hedge trimmer gets a pretty big power boost.

Greenworks 60V Pole Saw

The main talking points surrounding the GreenWorks 60V Pole Saw and Pole Hedge Trimmer revolve around power. GreenWorks optimized both tools for running off of their 60V UltraPower batteries. These batteries provide more power than the standard 60V batteries.

Greenworks 60v Pole Saw

The GreenWorks Pole Saw is new to the 60V lineup, but it looks like it’s gotten off on the right foot. It features a brushless motor to power the 10″ bar and high-performance 1/4″ chain. The kitted UltraPower battery provides the pole saw with even better performance, letting it take on even more challenging tasks.

Greenworks 60V Articulating Hedge Trimmer

Next, the updated GreenWorks 60V articulating pole hedge trimmer marks a clear upgrade to one of the staples in the lineup. Where the older model came with a “high-efficiency motor” (read: brushed), the 2.0 version gets the higher-performance brushless motor. This gives the hedge trimmer the requisite power to tackle branches up to 1.2″ thick, improving on the prior version’s 3/4″ capability. That’s a really large cut capacity for a hedge trimmer.

Finally, these tools seem to indicate the presence of a larger power head attachment system. Both 60V tools can share the same motor, making us wonder what’s next for this platform.

Ryobi 4 Cycle Trimmer RY34440 Review

Ryobi’s RY34440 4-cycle string trimmer promises, among other things, quieter operation and greater fuel efficiency. It’s a “green” product (in more ways than one) that delivers less fuss when fueling since you don’t need to pre-mix your oil and gas. It also works with Ryobi’s Expand-it line of attachments – which are even backwards compatible with products I bought over 10 years ago. The 4-cycle trimmer comes with just the string trimmer attachment, but does include both a bump head and a pro-style head that facilitates easy string replacement and will handle larger diameter string (and more efficiently to boot).
