John Deere and EGO Collaborate for a New Cordless ZT Mower

The new ZTrak Mower is John Deere’s First ZT with Removable Batteries

John Deere is one of the biggest names in lawn care, with their iconic green equipment being almost synonymous with OPE. While most of the brand’s repertoire is gas-powered, they have been in the electric equipment game for several years, with the Gator electric utility vehicles and ZTrak zero-turn mowers leading the charge. Now, John Deere and EGO have joined forces to create the first John Deere zero-turn mower with removable batteries, running on EGO’s 56V Power+ system. I’m going over the new John Deere Z370RS Electric ZTrak zero-turn mower to help you decide if you’re ready to ditch the gas can.

John Deere x EGO Z370RS Electric ZTrak Zero-Turn Mower

  • Model: John Deere Z370RS
  • Power source: EGO 56V batteries
  • Recommended lawn size: 1.25 acres
  • Mower deck: 42 in
  • Forward speed: 0 – 7 MPH
  • Reverse speed: 0 – 3.5 MPH
  • 3-blade mower deck

The Z370RS zero-turn mower is the first John Deere model to feature removable batteries. However, instead of developing their own proprietary battery technology, the brand joined forces with EGO, another well-known battery-powered outdoor power equipment company.

While it’s not John Deere’s first electric ZT, the included EGO batteries provide more diverse power possibilities for EGO users. Those who want the trusted performance of a John Deere mower can now use the same batteries in their zero-turn as the rest of their battery-powered lawn care lineup!

The Z370RS ships with six EGO batteries: two 10.0Ah and four 6.0Ah. With all batteries equipped, you can mow up to 1.25 acres in ideal mowing conditions.

This mower travels at speeds of up to 7 MPH in forward and 3.5 MPH in reverse. Like many John Deere ZTs, you can choose between low mode and high mode for your forward speed. There’s also a bagging mode, which increases the blade speed to support effective material collection.

Mower Deck

Under the 42-inch deck, you’ll find a 3-blade mowing system. While John Deere doesn’t provide specific blade speed numbers for this particular model, they claim that the Accel Deep deck enables excellent cut quality and faster blade speeds.

For mowing height, you can choose between 1.25 inches and 4.5 inches in .25-inch increments. Setting the height is an easy process similar to what we see in other John Deere ZTs. Use the foot-lift pedal to lift the deck, turn the height-adjustment knob to your desired deck height, and then release the lift pedal to lower the deck to your set height.

EGO Batteries and Charging

The Z370RS mower can run on just two EGO batteries, but it can hold up to six batteries at once. As I mentioned above, it can mow up to 1.25 acres with all six included batteries equipped. However, if your lawn is on the smaller side, you can use two to four batteries and use the remaining batteries to power the rest of your EGO lawn care products.

Also included with this mower is an EGO ZTrak external charger, which allows you to charge the batteries directly onboard the mower. It plugs into the charging port next to the battery housing to charge all ported batteries at once. This method charges a fully depleted set of batteries in 4 to 5 hours.

Of course, since the EGO batteries are removable, you still have the option to charge them individually using a standard EGO charger in a pinch. However, this method will take much longer if you have limited chargers.

John Deere x EGO Z370RS Electric ZTrak Mower Price

This zero-turn mower has an MSRP of $6,499. It includes six EGO 56V batteries (2x 10.0Ah, 4x 6.0Ah) to get you started, and a ZTrak external charger. The mower comes with a 3-year (or 200-hour) warranty, and the batteries are covered under a 5-year (or 200-hour) warranty.

Should You Buy It?

The John Deere Z370RS targets homeowners who use EGO Power+ tools, letting you swap the included 56V batteries between the rest of their battery-powered lawn equipment. It offers similar performance, build quality, and user experience to the rest of the John Deere ZT lineup. If your property is around 1.25 acres and you use EGO batteries for the rest of your lawn care, this mower is a good investment to take advantage of the shared power technology.

However, if you’re not on EGO’s 56V Power+ system and don’t plan on buying into this platform, John Deere also offers several other residential electric zero-turn mowers to help you eliminate gas from your lawn care routine.
